Regional Coordination Team to Support Residents’ Skills Development
Marshal Piotr Całbecki and member of the Region’s Board Marek Wojtkowski today (28 July) presented appointment letters to the members of the new Regional Coordination Team for Skills Policy. Over the next five years, the 85-member team will support the regional authorities in implementing policies aimed at developing residents’ skills and promoting the idea of lifelong learning. “Developing residents’ competences and skills requires cooperation and coordination between many different sectors. We want to take a comprehensive approach to this process – from early childhood education, through vocational and higher education, to adult continuing education,” emphasised Marshal Piotr Całbecki. “This is precisely the purpose of the Regional Coordination Team, which will bring together the activities of all partners in order to develop residents’ competences more effectively and better adapt them to the changing needs of the labour market.”
The Regional Coordination Team is a statutory advisory and consultative body of the Region’s Board. Its main responsibilities include:
- preparing recommendations and opinions concerning skills policy and the voivodeship development strategy;
- monitoring the implementation of skills policy and assessing the effectiveness of recommendations;
- issuing opinions on fields of education and training in terms of the needs of the regional labour market;
- supporting the implementation of regional public policies related to competence development;
- appointing representatives to the councils of Sectoral Skills Centres;
- cooperating with public administration bodies, non-governmental organisations, educational institutions and Regional Coordination Teams from other regions.
Skills policy is one of the pillars of the region’s social and economic development. Its objective is to create conditions enabling residents to acquire and develop competences at every stage of life – from school education, through vocational training and university studies, to the upgrading of adults’ professional qualifications.
The team is composed of representatives of the regional government, municipalities and counties, trade unions, employers’ organisations, labour market institutions, the education superintendent, business and professional self-government organisations, higher education institutions, the Educational Research Institute, vocational and continuing education centres, sectoral vocational schools, technical secondary schools and post-secondary schools.
During its first meeting, the members elected the team’s presidium. Eliza Kaczmarek, Director of the Department of Education at the Marshal’s Office, was elected Chair of the Regional Coordination Team, while Beata Więckowska, Deputy Director of the Department of Education at the Marshal’s Office, was appointed Deputy Chair.
