More Green Avenues Along Regional Roads
We are continuing the Marshal’s programme to restore tree-lined avenues along Regional roads. New trees and shrubs are being planted along additional roads in Tuchola, Świecie, Brodnica, Toruń and Rypin counties. In total, we will plant nearly 800 mature trees and 1,400 shrubs. The results are already visible along the modernised Regional Road No. 240, which connects Świecie and Tuchola, among other towns. We are also preparing further projects.
– We are restoring tree-lined avenues to compensate for losses to ecosystems associated with various infrastructure projects. Trees provide natural environmental protection – they shield against wind and erosion, offer shelter to birds and insects, and help maintain soil fertility, says Marshal Piotr Całbecki. – We want to see more and more green avenues along our Regional roads. We are allocating a total of PLN 18 million for this purpose.
The project includes site preparation, the supply of large tree saplings (with a trunk circumference of at least 20 centimetres measured at a height of 1.3 metres), planting, maintenance (fertilisation and watering), and the construction of water retention basins around the trees. The project will be financed through the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021–2027. The work, valued at PLN 1.5 million, is being carried out by Henryk Hinca’s tree nursery in Dobrzyca.
Along Regional Road No. 240 in Tuchola and Świecie counties, we have planted 196 lime trees, 108 maples and 47 rowan trees. The new trees can be found in the municipalities of Kęsowo, Tuchola, Lubiewo (along the Płazowo bypass) and Bukowiec, among others. Planting work along this route has already been completed.
In the coming days, we will plant 63 lime trees and 22 rowan trees along Regional Road No. 543 in Brodnica County. The trees will be planted on the section between Jabłonowo Pomorskie and Grzybno.
Regional Road No. 557 in Rypin municipality will also become greener. We plan to plant 70 lime trees along the section from the town boundary to Balin. This year, we are also renovating sections of this road between Stary Kobrzyniec and Nadróż, and between Makówiec and Janiszewo.
New planting is also planned along Regional Road No. 553, currently undergoing renovation in Toruń County. We will plant 239 lime trees and 42 hawthorns in areas where trees are missing between Dębiny and Różankowo. The roadside greenery will also be supplemented by 1,380 shrubs, including sea buckthorn, Russian olive, smoke bush, sweet mock orange, Tatarian honeysuckle and rugosa rose.
Travelling in the Shade of Trees
By the end of the year, more than 2,220 mature trees will have been planted along Regional roads. The programme, initiated by the Marshal in recent years, has made it possible to restore roadside greenery along numerous sections of reconstructed Regional roads, including:
- Regional Road No. 553, Toruń – Wybcz (Toruń County)
- Regional Road No. 266, Ciechocinek – Zakrzewo (Aleksandrów County)
- Regional Road No. 551 in Raciniewo (Chełmno County)
- Regional Road No. 251, Barcin – Pakość (Inowrocław and Żnin counties)
- Regional Road No. 550, Chełmno bypass (Chełmno County)
We are currently preparing further projects. The next edition of the Marshal’s programme will include the restoration of tree-lined avenues along:
- Regional Road No. 552 (Toruń County)
- Regional Road No. 559 (Lipno County)
- Regional Road No. 265 (Włocławek County)
- Regional Road No. 562 (Lipno County)
Record Investment in Roads
PLN 2 billion will be allocated to the Regional road modernisation programme over the coming years. Under the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021–2027 (EFKP 2021–2027), our regional programme for the new EU financial perspective, we are allocating EUR 136 million to road investments, including our regional bypass construction programme.
Some road infrastructure expansion projects will also benefit from funding secured from central government sources, including approximately PLN 170 million for bypass construction and around PLN 450 million for the expansion of other roads.
