Major Upgrade on the Bydgoszcz–Białe Błota Regional Road
On Monday, 5 October, renovation work will begin on the final section of regional road No. 223 – from the railway viaduct to the turbo roundabout. Work on the 400-metre section will take approximately seven weeks. Drivers should expect longer journey times. The renewed road surface will help avoid disruptive and recurring patch repairs in the spring. In Bydgoszcz County, we are currently carrying out road investments with a total value exceeding PLN 70 million.
This is the oldest section of road surface along this part of regional road No. 223. Drivers currently use four traffic lanes here – two towards the city and two towards the Bydgoszcz Błonie junction. The scope of works includes:
- milling the old road surface,
- replacing kerbs,
- laying a levelling course,
- installing reinforcing mesh,
- laying a 4 cm binder course,
- laying a 4 cm wearing course,
- installing horizontal and vertical road markings,
- installing safety barriers.
Due to the very high volume of traffic, drivers should be prepared for disruptions and longer journey times. Strabag, the contractor carrying out the project, has committed to completing the works by the end of November. Following final acceptance of the investment, the works will be covered by a five-year warranty. The project costs PLN 1.4 million.
Previously, we built a turbo roundabout along this route and renovated the section of road from the roundabout to the entrance to Białe Błota.
Road investments in Bydgoszcz County
Several major road projects are currently under way in Bydgoszcz County:
- Regional road No. 551, Strzyżawa – Ostromecko – Nowy Dwór – the road is currently being upgraded. A number of works related to the reconstruction of underground utilities have already been completed. The contractor, Colas, is working to restore two-lane traffic before winter. Finishing works are planned for the spring. The investment is worth PLN 22 million. The project is being implemented with support from the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021–2027;
- Regional road No. 244 in Żołędowo – a three-kilometre section of Jastrzębia Street is being upgraded. New pavements, cycle paths and illuminated pedestrian crossings are being built. A roundabout will also be constructed at the junction with the road leading to Kotomierz. The investment is worth nearly PLN 40 million, of which PLN 12 million was provided by the Osielsko municipality. Marbruk is currently focusing on the reconstruction of underground infrastructure, construction of the drainage system and rebuilding of the carriageway. Construction of the roundabout will begin next year and will be co-financed under the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021–2027;
- Regional road No. 243, Drzewianowo – Prosperowo – a five-kilometre section of the road is being rebuilt. The investment is worth more than PLN 10 million and is scheduled for completion later this year;
- Regional road No. 244 in the Sicienko municipality – renovation of further sections of the road is nearing completion.
Preparations are under way for further investments, including the construction of a second roundabout in Żołędowo at the junction of Bydgoska and Koronowska streets, and the reconstruction of regional road No. 204 in Solec Kujawski, along Garbary Street.
Design work is also under way to improve traffic flow on regional road No. 223 in Białe Błota. The contractor is compiling the necessary source materials and has begun preparing preliminary design options. A procurement procedure is also under way for the preparation of documentation for the redevelopment of the junction of regional roads Nos. 238 and 244 in Osówiec.
Record spending on roads
PLN 2 billion will be allocated to the regional programme for the modernisation of regional roads in the coming years. Under the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021–2027 (FEdKP 2021–2027), our regional programme for the new EU financial perspective, we are allocating EUR 136 million to road investments, including our regional bypass construction programme.
We will also use central government funding secured for some road infrastructure projects – approximately PLN 170 million for bypasses and around PLN 450 million for the upgrading of other roads.
