“You perform your profession with passion and dedication, in an atmosphere of silence, because books and engaging with them require the quiet necessary for concentration and reflection. This day – the one day each year when all the spotlights are directed at you – is an important day for Polish culture. I warmly congratulate all of you and thank you for your work,” said Vice Marshal Zbigniew Ostrowski during the meeting with librarians.

- Urszula Zaborska, a retired and distinguished employee of the University Library in Toruń, received the Polish Librarians’ Association Medal “In Recognition”
“The Marshal’s Award is a pleasant distinction for me and recognition of the efforts that I carry out together with my team at the library. Our work today is completely different from what it was at the beginning of my professional career. Today, a librarian not only lends books, but also writes project proposals, organizes cultural events, runs community activities, and later settles and reports on those projects,” said Marcin Karnowski from the Dr. Witold Bełza Regional and Municipal Public Library in Bydgoszcz.
“I feel that the work I do is in itself a reward for me. Today, libraries are definitely no longer just book lending facilities. They are cultural centres whose main mission is to promote reading, literature, and the written word in the broadest sense. Librarians must adapt to the needs and expectations of readers,” emphasized Beata Szymańska, Director of the Municipal Public Library in Świecie.
Guests also toured the new spaces of the Copernican Library and attended a concert by the band Svahy.
