Green avenues are coming back

We are continuing our program to restore green avenues. As early as this week, more than 100 trees will be planted along regional road no. 551 in Raciniewo (Chełmno County). Today (May 4), Marek Wojtkowski, a member of the regional board, reviewed the progress of the project. We have also completed plantings along regional road no. 251 between Barcin (Żnin County) and Pakość (Inowrocław County), and work is nearing completion along part of the Chełmno bypass. In the autumn, more roads will be lined with rows of trees.

Restoring green avenues is aimed at compensating for losses in the ecosystem. Trees are a natural form of environmental protection, and this planting program is an example of combining road infrastructure development with care for nature. We are working to ensure that more regional roads regain their green character. A total of PLN 18 million has been allocated for this purpose,” emphasizes Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

The entrance to the Unisław municipality from the Bydgoszcz side will be planted with Norway maples. The planting and three-year maintenance of the trees is being carried out by the Henryk Hinca Nursery from Dobrzyca in Greater Poland. The project includes site preparation, delivery of large saplings (at a height of 1 meter, the trees must have a trunk circumference of at least 20 cm), planting, maintenance (fertilization and watering), and the creation of water retention basins. The project is financed using funds from the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021–2027.

Earlier, new trees were planted along regional road no. 553 (Toruń–Wybcz) in Toruń County and along regional road no. 266 (Ciechocinek–Zakrzewo) in Aleksandrów County. Last week, 150 trees were planted along regional road no. 251 between Barcin and Pakość. Planting work along part of the Chełmno bypass is nearing completion. Preparations are underway for a tender to plant trees and shrubs along further regional roads, including:

  • regional road no. 240 (Tuchola–Świecie)
  • regional road no. 557 (Lipno–Rypin)
  • regional road no. 543 (Paparzyn–Brodnica)
  • regional road no. 553 (Toruń–Wybcz, additional package of trees and shrubs)

Along regional road no. 551, which connects the Bydgoszcz, Chełmno, Toruń, and Wąbrzeźno counties, further road investments are being carried out:

  • the rebuilt section in Gzin with new bus bays has been completed (1 km, Bydgoszcz County)
  • expansion works are ongoing in Strzyżawa and Nowy Dwór (3 km, Bydgoszcz County)
  • pedestrian crossings and bus platforms are being upgraded with additional lighting (along the entire route)
  • a tender is underway for the reconstruction of the Dźwierzno–Orzechowo section (5 km, Wąbrzeźno County)
  • a tender is underway for the reconstruction of the Nielub–Wąbrzeźno section (2 km, Wąbrzeźno County)
  • a roundabout design is being prepared in Chełmża (Toruń County)
  • work is ongoing on documentation necessary for the construction of the Chełmża bypass (Toruń County)

Record spending on roads

PLN 2 billion will be allocated to the regional program for the modernization of regional roads in the coming years. Under the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021–2027 (EFKP 2021–2027), our regional program for the new financial perspective, EUR 136 million has been earmarked for road investments, including our regional bypass construction program. Some tasks related to road infrastructure expansion will also be financed with central government funding (approx. PLN 170 million for bypasses and around PLN 450 million for the expansion of other roads).
