Expansion of the Pomeranian Philharmonic Gets Underway

Following a public procurement procedure, the Polish construction company Unibep has been selected to carry out the expansion and modernisation of the Pomeranian Philharmonic building. Representatives of the contractor and the investor are signing the contract today (27 July) in Bydgoszcz in the presence of Marshal Piotr Całbecki. The expanded complex of the region’s oldest cultural institution managed by the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region is scheduled for completion within 36 months.

“After several years of intensive preparations, we can finally announce the launch of this project – the most significant cultural investment currently being undertaken in our region. We are confident about its successful delivery because the contractor has extensive experience with projects of this kind. What begins here today marks a revolution and a new chapter in the history of our Philharmonic. The expansion concept is ambitious while remaining deeply respectful of the existing building. A temple of art should also speak through its architecture. I believe we will achieve that goal,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

The new section of the complex will include, among other facilities, a 350-seat chamber concert hall with a stage designed for a 30-piece orchestra and a 30-member choir, equipped with professional sound and lighting systems and backstage facilities for performers. An underground parking system has also been planned. A new feature will be a publishing salon combined with an arts café, serving as both a bookshop and an exhibition space for works of art. The project also includes a publicly accessible restaurant.

The existing main concert hall, renowned in Poland and abroad for its outstanding acoustics, will undergo a meticulous renovation carried out to the highest standards. Preserving its unique acoustic qualities is one of the project’s key objectives. The hall will also be equipped with professional facilities for concert recording and television and online broadcasting, a modern lighting and sound control system, and much-needed air conditioning for both the stage and the auditorium.

The project is financed by the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region budget and the centrally managed European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate and Environment (FEnIKS) 2021–2027 programme. The Pomeranian Philharmonic is being supported in the implementation of the investment by Kujawsko-Pomorskie Regional Investments, a special-purpose company established by the regional self-government.
