Experts, practitioners, caregivers and representatives of social institutions gathered today (28 May) in Toruń for a conference on long-term care organised by the Regional Centre for Social Policy. The event provided an opportunity to discuss the challenges related to an ageing population, the quality of care services and support for people working in the social assistance sector.

“Caring for people who require long-term medical support is one of the major challenges of our time. That is why we are allocating European funds to initiatives that create entirely new institutions and services supporting social policy,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

The lectures and presentations focused on the key challenges facing the long-term care system in Poland. Experts and practitioners discussed organisational and legislative changes, presented examples of good practice and analysed the availability of care services, support for families and local governments, as well as the mental wellbeing of employees in the care sector.

The event brought together representatives of social welfare institutions, healthcare providers, professional and family caregivers, volunteers, non-governmental organisations and all those interested in long-term care issues.

The conference also served as a platform for exchanging experiences and strengthening cooperation among groups involved in building an effective support system for elderly, dependent and long-term care patients.

The meeting is being held as part of a project co-financed by the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021-2027 programme.
