Brodnica County: European Funding for Sustainable Development
Projects worth a total of PLN 200 million are being implemented in Brodnica County with support from our regional programme, European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze. Among the most important initiatives funded in this way are the purchase of electric buses for the town of Brodnica, the modernisation of the heating system in Jabłonowo Pomorskie, an investment under the Regional Ecological Academy in Górzno, and the construction of a kindergarten in Pokrzydowo.
The zero-emission buses, which serve routes including those to Toruń and Bydgoszcz, together with the technical infrastructure needed to operate them, cost the town PLN 14 million. They are not only environmentally friendly, but also comfortable and quiet. The investment, which also includes “green bus stops”, is helping to drive further positive changes in public transport. The town authorities are planning to build a new bus station.
The Kujawsko-Pomorskie Ecological Academy initiative includes, among other things, the modernisation and upgrading of the environmental education centre in Górzno. The project, implemented by the Marshal’s Office’s Centre for Sustainable Development, is worth PLN 11.3 million. The Regional Ecological Academy encompasses projects across the region, including not only investments but also environmental education activities and workshops for people of different ages and for families.
The Regional Centre for Sustainable Development is also responsible for implementing projects in Brodnica County that form part of the development of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Network of Day Care Centres. These projects involve building new facilities and maintaining existing ones, an important element of the regional government’s social policy, particularly its support for older people. The investments in Brodnica County – involving day care centres in Górzno, Jabłonowo Pomorskie, Świedziebnia and Zbiczno – are worth PLN 10.1 million.
The modernisation of the municipal heating system and district heating transmission network in Jabłonowo Pomorskie is worth PLN 10.4 million. The project includes the construction, reconstruction and expansion of the municipal heating plant, with a capacity of 1.6 MW, as well as the municipal district heating network.
The town of Brodnica is investing PLN 8 million in establishing a Social Services Centre. It will include a day care facility for 30 older people who require assistance with daily living and/or have disabilities, two self-help clubs for people needing support with everyday activities, and a support centre for individuals and families experiencing crisis.
Other important local investments include the construction of a kindergarten in Pokrzydowo, in Zbiczno municipality, at a cost of PLN 3.5 million. Kindergartens in rural areas not only help families balance their parental and professional responsibilities, but also put into practice policies aimed at ensuring equal educational opportunities.
Road infrastructure is also seeing significant development in Brodnica County. This year saw the completion of the reconstruction of regional road No. 543, which connects Brodnica and Jabłonowo Pomorskie. The final upgraded section, between Lembarg and Wichulec, is 4 km long and cost PLN 6 million. Earlier, we modernised the Kujawsko-Pomorskie section of road No. 544, which links Brodnica with Lidzbark in the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Region. The next step is a tender for the construction of Brodnica’s eastern bypass, with the cost estimated at PLN 60 million.
Local government bodies, social organisations and businesses in Brodnica County have also recently secured funding from the Rural Development Programme (a total of PLN 33.105 million) and the National Recovery Plan (a total of PLN 10 million), as well as preferential loans from the Marshal’s Office’s Kujawsko-Pomorskie Loan Fund (a total of PLN 6.5 million). The grants have helped, among other things, to modernise the drinking water treatment and distribution system in Jabłonowo Pomorskie municipality, enabled the private company Publiczny Transport Ciężarowy to purchase electric vehicle charging stations, and supported the establishment of dozens of new businesses. These include companies specialising in aerial photography, photovoltaic panel cleaning, confectionery production and tourism services. Borrowers include Jabłonowo Pomorskie municipality, which used funds from the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Loan Fund to improve the energy efficiency of public buildings and modernise street lighting.
