Bydgoszcz and Toruń, Toruń and Bydgoszcz: History as a Starting Point for a Discussion About the Future
Does history shape the present-day relationship between Bydgoszcz and Toruń? Can their centuries-long experience of coexistence inspire closer cooperation in the future? These are the questions that participants in the conference “Bydgoszcz–Toruń: Relations Through the Centuries” (27 October, Ostromecko Palace) will seek to answer. The event, held under the honorary patronage of the Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region, will bring together representatives of the academic communities of both cities. Participants are expected to sign a declaration calling for dialogue, which “is so desperately needed at a time when we face increasingly difficult challenges.”
The conference is the first in a series of meetings under the theme “Different Paths – Shared Opportunities.” Its aim is to create a platform for informed discussion on the development of the region’s two largest cities. The organisers – the scientific societies of Bydgoszcz and Toruń, the regional libraries in both cities and the Municipal Cultural Centre in Bydgoszcz, in partnership with Nicolaus Copernicus University, Kazimierz Wielki University and WSG University – emphasise that reflecting on the past should help identify new forms of cooperation for the benefit of the entire region.
Historians, sociologists and political scientists are among those invited to attend the conference in Ostromecko.
