New roundabout to improve safety in Aleksandrów County
Today (10 September), in the presence of Marshal Piotr Całbecki, Vice-Marshal Aneta Jędrzejewska and Member of the Region Board Marek Wojtkowski, an agreement was signed for the construction of a roundabout in Ośno, Aleksandrów County. The project will be implemented using funds from the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021–2027 programme.
– When modernising roads, safety is the key issue – emphasises Marshal Piotr Całbecki. – That is why we are converting many dangerous intersections into roundabouts, which reduce the risk of serious accidents and improve traffic flow. Around the new junction in Ośno, we will also build illuminated pedestrian crossings and the missing sections of pavements and cycle paths.
The agreement was signed by Przemysław Dąbrowski, Director of the Region Roads Authority, and Mariusz Pietrow, representative of Strabag. The ceremony was also attended by Aleksandrów County Governor Lidia Tokarska and Deputy Mayor of the Aleksandrów Kujawski Municipality Malwina Andrusiak.
The new roundabout in Ośno will replace a particularly dangerous intersection with a county road. It will connect sections of Region Road No. 266 rebuilt in previous years. The road links, among other places, the A1 motorway interchange with Aleksandrów and Radziejów counties.
The project will include the construction of a three-arm roundabout, which will organise local and transit traffic and improve safety. Residents of Ośno and the surrounding area will also benefit from new pavements and a shared pedestrian and cycle path. On the north-western side, part of the roundabout island will be cut away to enable oversized vehicles to pass safely.
The scope of works also includes new lighting, drainage ditches and access roads to properties. Pedestrian crossings and cycle crossings are also planned on the Służewo and Aleksandrów Kujawski approaches.
Strabag will be responsible for the implementation of the PLN 5.85 million investment. Completion is planned for next summer. Following acceptance of the works, the investment will be covered by a seven-year warranty. The project will be implemented using funds from the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021–2027 programme. It is another investment carried out under our programme to eliminate dangerous locations on roads.
Along this route, we have also implemented one of the largest roadside avenue restoration projects in Poland. Last year, 440 trees were planted between Zakrzewo and Ciechocinek. A range of arboricultural works was also carried out on the mature trees growing there, including mistletoe removal.
New road surfaces, shoulders and signage
This year, we have also planned other investments along Region Road No. 266. At a cost of more than PLN 10 million, we are rebuilding a five-kilometre section between Przybranowo and Straszewo. The works include, among other things, road surface renewal, construction of shoulders, replacement of vertical road signs and renewal of road markings.
A similar scope of works is being carried out on a 3.4-kilometre section of the road between Sędzin and Krzywosądz. The cost of this project is almost PLN 5 million. Both reconstruction projects will be completed later this year and are financed from the region budget.
Work is also underway on the documentation required for the construction of another roundabout in Aleksandrów Kujawski, which will connect Przemysłowa Street and J. Słowackiego Street.
In recent years, along this route we have:
- renewed, among others, the Piotrków Kujawski–Radziejów (7 km), Zakrzewo–Straszewo (4 km), Aleksandrów Kujawski–Przybranowo (5 km), Radziejów–Dobre (5 km) and Odolion–Aleksandrów Kujawski (3 km) sections;
- built a new roundabout in Sędzin;
- renewed several shorter sections running through Piotrków Kujawski, Czołowo, Aleksandrów Kujawski and Służewo;
- restored roadside plantings and cared for mature trees on the Ciechocinek–Zakrzewo section.
Record spending on roads
PLN 2 billion will be allocated to the region road modernisation programme over the coming years. Under the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021–2027 programme (EFKP 2021–2027), our regional programme for the new EU financial perspective, we are allocating EUR 136 million to road investments, including our regional bypass construction programme. Some road infrastructure expansion projects will also make use of central government funding secured by the region – approximately PLN 170 million for bypasses and around PLN 450 million for the expansion of other roads.
