Investing in Small-Scale Water Retention
Twenty-four farmers received agreements today (9 September) granting funding for the construction of new or renovation of existing reservoirs used for small-scale water retention. This year, support from the regional government for this purpose amounted to nearly PLN 760,000. The agreements were presented to the farmers by Marshal Piotr Całbecki and Member of the Region Board Dariusz Kurzawa.
– Water is a valuable resource and, unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly scarce in Kujawy and Pomorze. That is why there is no longer any need to convince anyone of the importance of building retention reservoirs that make it possible to store water resources. Water retention brings many benefits. It supports agricultural production, improves water conditions and benefits the ecosystem. I am pleased that we can support the projects submitted. I hope these investments will contribute to the development of your farms – emphasised Marshal Piotr Całbecki during the meeting.
The funds used to support the construction of new and renovation of existing retention reservoirs come from charges and annual fees collected for taking agricultural land out of production and allocating it for non-agricultural purposes.
The regional government may use these funds for the construction and modernisation of access roads to agricultural land, as well as for the construction and renovation of water reservoirs used for small-scale retention.
The highest level of support, amounting to nearly PLN 100,000, was awarded to Marcin Topolewski from Kleszczyn (Rypin County) for the construction of a reservoir covering almost one hectare.
The Small-Scale Water Retention Programme in figures – 2026 edition:
- PLN 756,540 – total amount of funding
- 7.5 hectares – total area of reservoirs constructed or renovated
- 50 applications submitted
- 24 agreements.
Between 2020 and 2025, with support from the voivodeship budget, retention reservoirs covering a total area of approximately 7 hectares were constructed, with funding amounting to PLN 510,000.
