Back to School!

After two months of summer break, a quarter of a million students across the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region are starting the new school year today (1 September). Marshal Piotr Całbecki attended the official opening ceremony at the School and Preschool Complex in Bądkowo (Aleksandrów County). Regional Assembly Chair Elżbieta Piniewska and Member of the Executive Board Marek Wojtkowski are also taking part in school opening ceremonies across the region.

“I hope the school year ahead leaves room for ambition as well as kindness and friendship, for hard work as well as fun, and for independence as well as knowing when to ask for help. Make the most of this year, so that when June comes, you can look back with pride and say: it was time well spent,” Marshal Piotr Całbecki writes in his letter to students and teachers.

Regional Assembly Chair Elżbieta Piniewska is attending the regional school-year opening ceremony at the Rev. Jan Twardowski Primary School in Przyłęki (Bydgoszcz County) and at Adam Mickiewicz III High School in Bydgoszcz. Member of the Executive Board Marek Wojtkowski is attending the opening ceremony at the Chemical School Complex in Włocławek.

For years, the regional self-government has consistently supported students and teachers through scholarship programmes, educational initiatives and awards recognising outstanding achievements in education.

Under the regional European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze programme (FEdKP), we have allocated PLN 130 million to preschool infrastructure and early childhood education, PLN 200 million to vocational education and infrastructure at vocational schools, PLN 200 million to general education, and PLN 44 million to improving accessibility at educational institutions and developing sports facilities.

This year, the regional self-government is allocating nearly PLN 240 million to education-related initiatives.

Every year, students from all types of schools can apply for Marshal’s scholarships worth up to PLN 5,000. The combined budget of the three scholarship programmes exceeds PLN 7 million. Two of them – Prymus Pomorza i Kujaw II and Zawodowe Talenty Kujaw i Pomorza – are co-funded by the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021–2027, while Prymus Pomorza i Kujaw Plus is financed from the regional budget.

Students and teachers are also welcome to take advantage of the wide range of programmes and services offered by regional educational institutions. These include medical and social care schools in Toruń and Inowrocław, teacher training libraries in Bydgoszcz and Toruń, as well as special education and care centres and special schools in Bydgoszcz, Toruń and Ciechocinek.
