– By paying tribute to our heroes, we express our gratitude for freedom and independence. Their courage remains an example of devotion to the Homeland and, at the same time, a commitment to continually safeguarding the secure future of the Republic of Poland, said Marek Smoczyk, Secretary of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region, representing the regional government during the celebrations in Toruń marking the 106th anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw (15 August).

– We have enormous respect for the daily service of Polish soldiers. (…) On the occasion of Polish Armed Forces Day, please accept our appreciation, gratitude and best wishes. May the years ahead in the service of the Homeland bring you satisfaction and the sense of a duty well fulfilled, Marek Smoczyk told the soldiers gathered at the monument to Marshal Józef Piłsudski.

The main part of the celebrations took place last Saturday (15 August) at Rapacki Square in Toruń, with the participation, among others, of Jan Wyrowiński, a democratic opposition activist from the period before August 1980 and Deputy Marshal of the Senate of the Republic of Poland during its 8th term, representatives of Toruń’s local government and soldiers of the Toruń military garrison.
