Kontakt Festival Comes to a Close

The creators of “The Summit” by Christoph Marthaler received the Grand Prize of the 30th International Kontakt Theatre Festival, funded by Marshal Piotr Całbecki. The closing ceremony of the festival took place on 5 June at the Wilam Horzyca Theatre in Toruń.

Anna Antonowicz, who portrayed Maria Wojdan in “The Stream. Exercises in Community,” was named Best Actress of the festival.

The jury awarded the Best Actor prize to Maciej Cymorek for his portrayal of Zbyszko of Bogdaniec in “The Teutonic Knights,” directed by Jan Klata.

The award of the Mayor of Toruń, Paweł Gulewski, went to the Zagłębie Theatre from Sosnowiec for its production of “The Promised Land,” directed by Maja Kleczewska.

Damir Avdić, who appeared in “Faith, Money, War and Love,” received the Zdzisław Maklakiewicz Award, funded by the Polish Union of Stage Artists (ZASP), for the best supporting performance.

Special distinctions were awarded to:

  • “7 Solitudes”, a co-production of the Wilam Horzyca Theatre and the National Drama Theatre in Kaunas, directed by Robert Wilson and Charles Chemin;
  • “The Cherry Orchard” by the State Theatre of Constanța, directed by Andrei Măjeri.

The Kontakt Festival opened on 29 May with a performance of “7 Solitudes”.
