Inowrocław Deserves This Investment
The consortium formed by Prolog from Wrocław and Landscape Practice Marta Tomasiak from Warsaw has won the competition to develop the concept design for the headquarters of the marshal’s InoLAB Centre in Inowrocław. During a ceremony held on Thursday (14 May) at the Municipal Theatre in Inowrocław, the authors of the winning concept were congratulated by Piotr Całbecki, Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region, and Elżbieta Piniewska, President of the Regional Parliament, who were visiting the city and municipalities of Inowrocław County. The project is being implemented by the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Academy of Innovation, which is creating an innovative regional network of educational and cultural institutions.
“We are carrying out a unique project on a national scale, involving the construction of innovative education centres across the region that will support schools, promote education, and improve the quality of knowledge acquired by young people. I am convinced that residents of the region, tourists, and spa visitors from Poland and abroad will benefit from this educational offer. Inowrocław deserves this investment,” emphasized Marshal Piotr Całbecki during the meeting.
The event was also attended by Ryszard Brejza, Krzysztof Brejza, and local government representatives.
The marshal’s Kujawsko-Pomorskie Academy of Innovation (KPAI), which coordinates the implementation of the project, announced the competition in November 2025 for the architectural concept of a new educational and cultural centre and permanent exhibition in Inowrocław. Twenty-one entries were submitted and evaluated by a nine-member competition jury. The winner was announced on 14 May.
Competition Results:
- Prolog and Landscape Practice Marta Tomasiak – 1st place
- M.O.C. Architekci – 2nd place
- Grzegorz Tęgowski ZZAA – 3rd place
Honorable Mentions:
- MWM Architekci
- OVO Grąbczewscy Architekci
In addition to a financial prize, the winning consortium will receive an invitation to prepare the detailed design documentation, which is expected to be completed by autumn next year. A tender for construction works will then be announced, with the contract planned to be signed in 2028.
The new complex will be built on a two-hectare plot between Unii Europejskiej Street and Szymborska Street. It will include a modern interactive permanent exhibition, workshop rooms and laboratories, as well as an outdoor science park.
InoLAB will be a multisensory space engaging sight, hearing, smell, and touch. Visitors will hear the sounds of mines and graduation towers, experience the scents of brine and wood, touch blocks of salt and tools, while specially designed lighting will emphasize the character of the exhibition and ensure viewing comfort.
The centre’s educational offer will primarily target primary and secondary school students. In addition to themes connected with salt, it will address ecology, renewable energy sources, astronomy, and the development of creative thinking. The institution will also enrich Inowrocław’s tourist offer, becoming a new symbol of the city and a place of integration for residents and spa visitors alike.
The InoLAB project forms part of a broader concept of building educational and scientific infrastructure throughout the region. In Grudziądz, the Młyn Energii (“Energy Mill”) has been under construction for over a year, while in Włocławek work is underway on the educational, cultural, and scientific centre StodólnaLAB. These complementary initiatives will create a network of institutions – referred to as “constellations” – aimed at improving residents’ quality of life and access to modern education.
KPAI also employs and funds coordinating teachers in the Copernicus Astrobases across the region, implementing a coherent educational programme for primary and secondary school students. The academy’s newest project is the Kujawsko-Pomorskie School Under Sail.
