100th birthday of Sabina Wiśniewska
Sabina Wiśniewska has been honored with the Marshal of the Voivodeship’s medal Unitas Durat Palatinatus Cuiaviano-Pomeraniensis. The ceremony was attended by regional assembly councilor Jacek Gajewski and the head of the Lubicz commune, Marek Nicewicz.
– A hundred years of life is an extraordinary journey filled with experience, hard work, and care for others. People like this are living witnesses to history and to the values that build the strength of our families and our entire community – emphasized Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
Sabina Wiśniewska, née Buchalska, has spent her entire life in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. She comes from a farming family—her parents were Jan and Apolonia Buchalska (née Kowalska), who originated from the village of Dobrzejewice. They raised four children, and Sabina grew up among her siblings, learning work and responsibility from an early age.
Her childhood was interrupted by World War II—she was 13 at the time. She was deported to forced labor in Kołobrzeg, where she worked for about two years as a domestic helper. After the war, she returned to her home region on foot with others, and she recalls the first postwar years as a time of hard work and rebuilding life.
In 1955, she married Władysław Wiśniewski. The couple ran a farm for many years, eventually settling in Grębocin. Throughout her life, she worked on the farm and managed the household, while also being active in the local rural housewives’ association and a rosary group.
She is the mother of four sons and has eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Sabina is a calm, family-oriented, and deeply religious person. Her greatest joy comes from the presence of her loved ones and spending time with successive generations of her family.
The regional government has been honoring centenarian residents since 2018. More than five hundred people have received the Unitas Durat medal so far.
Families of residents of the region who are about to turn 100, as well as those already over 100, are encouraged to get in touch by phone at +48 56 62 18 344 or by email at: stulatkowie@kujawsko-pomorskie.pl
