Road Investments Gain Momentum

After the winter break, construction work has resumed on provincial roads. A large number of projects will be carried out this year, including in the Bydgoszcz county. The long-awaited modernization of the Toruń – Łubianka route in Toruń county is also planned. Procedures for the renovation of roads across the voivodeship are ongoing.

Modernized roads, new roundabouts, comfortable bypasses, bike paths, safe and well-lit pedestrian crossings – the results of our work are visible everywhere. We are effectively using external funding, including European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie. Each year we reconstruct around 100 kilometers of roads. This season, we aim to achieve an even better result,” announced Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

Safe Jastrzębia Street in Żołędowo

As part of the project, on a three-kilometer stretch of provincial road no. 244, residents will get sidewalks, bike paths, well-lit crossings, and a safe roundabout at the intersection with the road leading to Kotomierz. We are collaborating with the Osielsko municipality, which allocated PLN 12 million for a comprehensive road modernization. The total investment is nearly PLN 40 million. On Jastrzębia Street, demolition work is underway, and construction of the sewage system has also begun. The scope of work also includes:

  • Reconstruction of telecommunications networks
  • Construction of drainage systems
  • Reconstruction of existing water and sewage networks
  • Construction of a sanitary network
  • Reconstruction of the power network
  • Reconstruction of street lighting networks
  • Installation of road power supply and lighting

During the first phase, drivers should expect lane reductions and alternating traffic. The reconstructed section is most conveniently bypassed via the S5 expressway (between Bydgoszcz Północ and Maksymilianowo junctions). Roundabout construction will take place next year, funded with European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie 2021–2027.

Comprehensive Expansion of Strzyżawa – Nowy Dwór Road

After the winter break, major works are also starting on the extended sections of regional road no. 551 Strzyżawa – Ostromecko – Nowy Dwór. Preparatory, demolition, and network reconstruction works are ongoing under alternating traffic, with no detours. Traffic is controlled by the contractor’s staff and traffic signals, so longer travel times should be expected. Together with the contractor, we are preparing additional measures in Strzyżawa to minimize disruptions during critical phases. Alternative routes to Unisław include regional roads no. 546 and 597 (via Złąwieś and Rzęczkowo).

The scope of work includes:

  • Strengthening the road structure
  • Laying new pavement layers
  • Reconstruction of two culverts
  • Construction of new shoulders and driveways
  • Building bus bays

Works will also involve power and telecommunication networks, as well as construction of stormwater drainage and sidewalks in Strzyżawa. The PLN 22 million project is carried out by Colas, using co-financing from European Funds for Kujawy and Pomerania 2021–2027.

New Pavement and Lit Crossings

Recently, contracts were signed with contractors for the following projects:

  • Reconstruction of DW 554, Moszczonne – Kikół, 5.3 km, Lipno county (contract value PLN 8.6 million, contractor: Zakład Drogowo-Budowlany Rogowo)
  • Reconstruction of DW 560, Zakrocz – Puszcza Rządowa, 2 km, Rypin county (contract value PLN 3.7 million, contractor: PRD Lipno)

These works include shoulders, signage replacement, and construction of bus platforms.

Tenders are ongoing for additional road renovations and comprehensive reconstructions. A new surface will be applied, for example, to a 6 km stretch of DW 553 between Różankowo and the Łubianka roundabout.

Ongoing procurement procedures also concern the reconstruction of other roads, including:

  • DW 189, Zakrzewska Osada – Witunia, 4 km, Sępólno county
  • DW 237, Brody – Woziwoda, 4 km, Tuchola county
  • DW 251, Murczyn – Młodocin, 5.2 km, Żnin county
  • DW 649, Kiełbasin – Sierakowo, 7.8 km, Golub-Dobrzyń county
  • DW 557, Janiszewo – Makówiec, 5 km, Lipno county
  • DW 557, Nadróż – Nowy Kobrzyniec, 5 km, Rypin county
  • DW 554, Orzechowo – Sierakowo, 3.8 km, Golub-Dobrzyń and Wąbrzeźno counties
  • DW 551, Dźwierzno – Orzechowo, 4.9 km, Wąbrzeźno county
  • DW 569, Olszówka – Elgiszewo, 3 km, Golub-Dobrzyń county
  • DW 412, Rożniaty – Kobylniki, 2.5 km, Inowrocław county
  • DW 543, Lembarg – Wichulec, 4.2 km, Brodnica county

Within a month, renovation work on the Wąbrzeźno bypass will also be completed, including new pavement layers, sidewalk repairs, roundabout rings, and new signage.

Record Road Spending

The voivodeship road modernization program will receive PLN 2 billion in the coming years. Under the European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie 2021–2027 (EFKP 2021–2027), our regional program for the new perspective allocates €136 million for road investments, including the regional bypass construction program. Central co-financing will also be used for some projects (approx. PLN 170 million for bypasses and approx. PLN 450 million for other road expansions).
