Indoor World Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26: The whole region is alive with athletics!

A week remains until the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26, the most important athletics event of the season. Our relay has already visited 43 towns, sports clubs, schools, and local communities, showcasing the diversity of sport in Kujawy Pomorze. Yesterday (March 12), we met at athletics competitions in Borzymin in Rypin County, and today (March 13), we meet for dance classes in Piotrków Kujawski (Radziejów County).

– “I would like to thank all residents, athletes, coaches, schools, clubs, and local communities for actively participating in our relay. Every meeting, every baton symbolically passed, and every form of activity contributes to a coherent story about a region that is responsible, active, and consciously cares for the health of its residents. Thanks to your engagement, sport in our region demonstrates its strength and diversity,” emphasized Marshal Piotr Całbecki. “I now invite everyone to cheer together – both at the Kujawsko-Pomorska Arena in Toruń and in the fan zone at Toruń’s Rynek Nowomiejski. Together, we create these championships!”

– “Our school has fantastic facilities for practicing athletics. Physical activity is an important part of educating young people, and sport largely shapes their character,” emphasized Maciej Grzybowski, PE teacher at the Primary School in Borzymin. “We are happy to participate in the ‘50 Relays of Kujawy and Pomorze’ initiative. We are keeping our fingers crossed for our athletes during the championships!”

– “We had a great time, so many people cheered for us, and I’m proud that my team ran the fastest,” said Amelia Szczucka, a participant in yesterday’s competition.

The 50 Relays of Kujawy and Pomorze is a series of events organized during the fifty days leading up to the Indoor World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26. As part of the initiative, there were training sessions, tournaments, and sports activities in 24 disciplines, including the most popular: athletics, volleyball, football, futsal, handball, basketball, kayaking, boxing, and field hockey, as well as boccia, winter swimming, floorball, table tennis, badminton, judo, skiing, and chess. Fitness activities were also very popular, including Kangoo Jumps, general fitness, and gymnastics classes.

Each meeting was an opportunity for movement, integration, and promotion of an active lifestyle. Both athletes from local clubs and amateurs, children, youth, entire families, and seniors joined the initiative. The relay baton, passed symbolically between 50 municipalities, will cover 6,100 kilometers. Photos from all stops, with a total of 5,000 participants, will be displayed on the opening day of the championships (March 20) on boards along Królowej Jadwigi Street (from Empik to the fan zone).

Upcoming final relay stops:

  • March 14 – wheelchair rugby in Bydgoszcz
  • March 15 – plogging in Osie (Świecie County)
  • March 16 – general fitness training in Białe Błota (Bydgoszcz County)
  • March 17 – family tournament in Trzebcz Szlachecki (Chełmno County)
  • March 18 – training in Grudziądz

At 4:00 PM, a concert will mark the opening of the championships, featuring Dawid Kwiatkowski, Ray Wilson, and Gromee. Admission is free.
