Marshals of Four Regions Appeal to the Prime Minister Regarding the S15

Marshal Piotr Całbecki, together with the Marshal of the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Region Marcin Kuchciński, the Marshal of the Opolskie Region Szymon Ogłaza, and the Vice-Marshal of the Wielkopolskie Region Wojciech Jankowiak, today (9 March) in Toruń signed a joint appeal to Prime Minister Donald Tusk calling for action aimed at constructing the S15 expressway.

The initiative of the host of our region seeks to build broad, supra-regional support for the creation of a new transport corridor connecting the north-eastern and southern parts of the country.

The planned transport corridor would link Olsztyn, Toruń and Opole, as well as Inowrocław, Konin, Kalisz and Ostrów Wielkopolski, creating a new national north – south transport axis. The implementation of this investment would significantly improve transport accessibility for many areas that are currently far from motorways and expressways. It would also strengthen the development potential of medium-sized cities and county capitals across 80 municipalities inhabited by 1.5 million people.

The signatories of the appeal call for the development of the S15 transport corridor to be included in national strategic and planning documents, including the Government Programme for the Construction of National Roads, and for work to begin on determining the route and preparing the investment.

We are convinced that the proposed corridor fits into the objectives of the state’s development policy (…) responding to the need to strengthen balanced and polycentric development of the country,” reads the appeal signed today.

The meeting of the Marshals of four Regions, held in the representative interiors of the Dąmbski Palace in Toruń, continues the January initiative of Marshal Piotr Całbecki. At that time, representatives of local governments from our region signed a declaration of cooperation aimed at including the S15 expressway in national investment plans.

Guests at the meeting included the President of the Regional Parliament Elżbieta Piniewska, Vice-Marshal Aneta Jędrzejewska, Members of the Regional Executive Board Dariusz Kurzawa and Marek Wojtkowski, as well as members of parliament, local government representatives and officials of the national administration.
