Expansion of Opera Nova Nearing Completion (Photo Report)
The expansion of Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz is one of the most important cultural investments in our region and one of the most significant projects in the city. The works at Marszałka Focha Street, scheduled to be completed in December 2026, have attracted great interest from the city’s residents and music lovers.
“To be able to participate in artistic events at the highest level, we must have cultural institutions with facilities that meet modern standards. Culture and its creators have always needed generous patrons – that was true in the past and remains true today,” emphasizes Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
“The so-called fourth circle refers to the original architectural competition concept from 1962. Its author, Professor Józef Chmiel, envisioned a building composed of three interpenetrating circles and a fourth circle connected to them. (…) The investment currently being implemented is therefore a continuation of a long-term project – started in 1973 and officially completed in 2006,” recalls Director Maciej Figas, adding that the construction of a two-level underground car park, also part of the project, responds to the needs of both opera audiences and participants of other events held here.
In the new four-storey wing of the complex – the so-called fourth circle – there will be an opera chamber hall (with an orchestra pit for a seventy-member ensemble and seating for 500 people), as well as exhibition space and a cinema hall. The rotunda with a viewing terrace overlooking the Brda River, where finishing and installation works are currently underway, has a usable area of 6,000 square metres and a volume of 40,000 cubic metres. The much-needed two-level underground parking facility being built at the same time – expected to be completed in mid-2026 – will provide 212 parking spaces. The total value of the investment exceeds PLN 190 million.
Currently, intensive finishing and installation works are underway in both newly constructed facilities, including plastering, floor installation, assembly of ventilation and lighting systems, electrical cabling, as well as the delivery of panels and cladding for the façade of the parking structure.
