There is a trailer for Jan Komasa’s new film under our patronage. Hollywood stars appear in it
The thriller “Dobry chłopiec” (“Good Boy”), co-financed by our Kujawy Pomorze Film Fund, will hit Polish cinemas on 6 March.
The film, released internationally under the English title “Good Boy,” had its world premiere on 5 September last year at the jubilee 50th Toronto International Film Festival. It is a thriller telling the story of Tommy, a young man involved in a world of drugs and violence. One day, the 19-year-old is kidnapped by a mysterious man who wants to rehabilitate him and turn him into the titular “good boy.”
The cast includes Hollywood stars. The lead role is played by Anson Boon, whose talent audiences may know from, among others, “1917” and the miniseries “Pistol,” about the history of the Sex Pistols. Stephen Graham, known from the series “Adolescence,” as well as “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “The Irishman,” plays Chris – the man who kidnaps Tommy. Chris’s wife is played by Andrea Riseborough. The British actress received an Oscar nomination for her performance in “To Leslie.”
The film was shot in Warsaw and Yorkshire in northern England. The cinematographer is Michał Dymek, and the screenplay was written by Bartek Bartosik and British director and writer Naqqash Khalid. The film was co-financed by the Kujawy Pomorze Film Fund using funds from the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region. Polish audiences will be able to see it in cinemas from 6 March.
“Komasa’s latest film is a story that draws you in from the very first minutes into a kaleidoscope of ambiguity and provokes deep reflection. A tale that leads you on with dark humor while posing many difficult questions about the boundaries of morality, without offering clear-cut answers. It forces viewers to confront their own beliefs and leaves no one indifferent,” reads the official announcement.
Distributors have just released the film’s first trailer.
The director is Jan Komasa, known for films such as “Suicide Room,” “Warsaw ’44,” and “Corpus Christi,” which was nominated for an Oscar in the Best International Feature Film category. “Good Boy” is his second English-language project. In November last year, his debut English-language film – a psychological thriller titled “Anniversary” – premiered, starring major names Diane Lane and Kyle Chandler.
Among the producers of “Good Boy” is one of Poland’s most acclaimed filmmakers, Jerzy Skolimowski. He is a director, screenwriter, as well as an actor, poet, and painter. He graduated in ethnography from the University of Warsaw and also completed directing studies at the Polish National Film, Television and Theatre School in Łódź. He began his career as a co-writer of the films “Innocent Sorcerers” and “Knife in the Water.” He has received many prestigious awards, including the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival for “The Start,” the Jury Special Prize at the Cannes Film Festival for “The Shout” and “EO,” and the Jury Special Prize at the Venice International Film Festival for “The Lighthouse Keeper.” In 2022, he received the Pola Negri Award from the Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region.
