Marshal Piotr Całbecki met yesterday (22 December) with soldiers of the United States Army stationed in our region during a ceremonial pre-Christmas gathering. There was the sharing of Christmas wafers, Polish carols, and heartfelt, warming wishes.
“They are here, far away from their families, for our security! On the eve of Christmas, I wish our friends all the very best. Thank you for being someone we can rely on in these difficult times!” wrote the head of the region on his social media account.
The Polish Christmas Eve celebration hosted by Marshal Piotr Całbecki for soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 5th Field Artillery Regiment, The Big Red One, from Fort Riley, Kansas, took place at Fort IV in Toruń. Among those present was, among others, the commander of the U.S. base in Toruń, Col. Matthew VanGilder.
