Along the Modernized Road from Stępowo to the Region Border

Member of the Regional Executive Board Marek Wojtkowski and Regional Councillor Paweł Zgórzyński took part today (18 December) in the opening ceremony of the modernized regional road No. 563 between Stępowo and the region border. The investment was made possible thanks to the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze for 2021-2027.

“We are consistently modernizing the road network in the region. We are making every effort to ensure that regional roads meet the highest quality standards and are comfortable and safe for all road users. That is why we equip routes with pedestrian and bicycle paths, traffic lights, illuminated pedestrian crossings, and sidewalks,” said Marek Wojtkowski, Member of the Regional Executive Board. “Next year, works on the neighboring section between Rypin and Stępowo will be finalized, and we are also working on the Rypin bypass.”

The road was reconstructed and strengthened. A pedestrian and bicycle path was added, providing a safe route to school for students of the primary school in Okalewo. As part of the project, intersections were rebuilt, pedestrian crossings were additionally illuminated, bus bays and a bus stop were constructed. The route also received durable horizontal road markings and new vertical signage. In Okalewo, a bus turning loop was built, safely set back from the regional road. A new bridge in Okalewo – wider than the previous crossing – was also constructed and equipped with a sidewalk.

Thanks to this investment, the safety of all road users has been significantly improved, especially pedestrians and cyclists in the Skrwilno municipality. The project also takes into account the needs of people with disabilities (lowered curbs, tactile elements with bumps or grooves to assist the visually impaired, and designated parking spaces for people with disabilities).

The investment was co-financed with EU funds from the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze for 2021-2027. The contractor was a consortium of PRD Lipno and PDB Brodnica.

The Stępowo – Region Border Route in Numbers:

  • Route length: 6.56 km
  • Length of the pedestrian and bicycle path: 2.8 km
  • Total investment value: PLN 44.7 million
  • EFdKP co-financing: PLN 38 million

Works are also nearing completion on the reconstruction of the neighboring 8-kilometer section of regional road No. 563 between Rypin and Stępowo. Final works on drainage ditches are underway. The investment will be completed ahead of the contractual deadline set for June 2026. Its cost is PLN 57 million, and the contractor is Strabag.

Record Spending on Roads

PLN 2 billion will be allocated to the regional program for the modernization of Regional Roads in the coming years. Under the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021-2027 (FEdKP 2021-2027), our regional program for the new financial perspective, EUR 136 million is earmarked for road investments, including, among others, our regional bypass construction program. Some road infrastructure expansion projects will also be financed with central government funds obtained (approximately PLN 170 million for bypasses and about PLN 450 million for the expansion of other roads).
