The traditional ceremonial pre-Christmas gathering is currently taking place at the Artus Court in Toruń, attended by the self-government authorities of the region, members of parliament, representatives of the clergy, as well as representatives of central government administration, civil society institutions, and local governments from across the region.

“God is with us in every human being. Differences and current problems must not obscure our solidarity and shared responsibility. War continues in Ukraine; in Bethlehem in Palestine, where Jesus was born, the gunfire has fortunately fallen silent – though not entirely – but there are still many places around the world where war is raging and innocent people are dying. We fear whether war might reach us as well. We will be more resilient to these threats if we stand together. That is what I wish for you – that we enter the new year with a sense of unity, responsibility, forgiveness, and mobilization. Europe is rooted in Christian tradition and in classical culture. For this reason, it is destined for success. We are a wonderful European community, shaped by people like us, in times that were by no means easier. And yet, they succeeded. I wish you all optimism. Let us not be afraid to be ourselves. Let us create, build, be together, and forgive one another! And for this Christmas, I wish you that tear in the eye when exchanging wishes and breaking the Christmas wafer. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to the entire Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region community!” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki as he opened the official part of the meeting.

“May today’s gathering be like a Christmas Eve table – open, filled with kindness and mutual respect. I wish you that the coming holidays bring, from simple things, the simplest – faith, hope, and love; from important things, the most important – health, closeness, and goodwill; and from beautiful things, the most beautiful – light within us. Let us be not only beside one another, but also with one another!” said Elżbieta Piniewska, President of the Regional Parliament.
