Modern education is our priority
The Kujawsko-Pomorskie Special Education Centre No. 1 named after Louis Braille in Bydgoszcz, run by the regional government of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship, is the oldest institution in Poland educating people with visual impairments. Its extensive teaching facilities and rich educational offer make it possible for students to learn and undergo rehabilitation at every stage of education.
The centre, which has been operating for 153 years, prepares its students for independent living. The Bydgoszcz institution educates blind, partially sighted, deafblind children and young people, as well as those with multiple disabilities.
The centre provides a full educational pathway, including:
- early childhood development support
- preschool education
- primary school
- general secondary school
- technical secondary school
- vocational school
- vocational preparation school
- post-secondary school
The Kujawsko-Pomorskie regional government consistently supports the modernisation and expansion of the centre. Two years ago, the institution gained a new preschool.
Thanks to European Union funds from the Regional Operational Programme of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship for 2014–2020, new vocational classrooms were created and existing ones modernised. Each was equipped with specialist equipment, teaching aids and modern software.
In the current 2025/2026 school year, 460 students are enrolled at the centre, including 110 receiving early childhood development support and 34 receiving individual instruction. The institution employs 206 qualified specialists: teachers, therapists, typhlopedagogues, neurologopedists, and experts in SI, AAC, Vojta and Bobath therapies.
The regional government runs 13 educational institutions, including 3 special education and care centres (2 in Bydgoszcz and 1 in Toruń).
