More Green Roads Across the Region
We are continuing the Marshal’s Office program to restore roadside tree alleys. More than 400 new trees will soon be planted along Regional Road No. 266, which connects Aleksandrów County with the A1 motorway. Today (October 22), Marshal Piotr Całbecki reviewed the progress of the project. In spring, rows of trees will also be planted along three additional regional roads.
“We are restoring green alleys to make up for the environmental losses that often accompany infrastructure projects. Trees are a natural form of environmental protection — they provide shelter from wind and erosion, offer habitats for insects and birds, and help preserve soil fertility. This planting program is an example of how we can combine road infrastructure development with care for nature and our region’s heritage. We’re working to ensure that more provincial roads take on a greener character this spring. We are allocating a total of 18 million zlotys for this purpose,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
Along Regional Road No. 266 between Ciechocinek and Zakrzewo, 440 trees are being planted — including small-leaved linden, Norway maple, sycamore, and black locust. The work is being carried out by Henryk Hinca’s Nursery Farm from Dobrzyca (Greater Poland Voivodeship). The 1.3 million zloty project covers site preparation, delivery of large saplings (with a trunk circumference of at least 20 cm at a height of 1 meter), planting, maintenance (fertilizing and watering), and construction of retention basins. The project is co-financed through the European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie 2021–2027.
Agrotechnical maintenance has also been carried out on 455 existing trees (including crown shaping, corrective pruning, and removal of mistletoe, dry branches, and shoots).
Earlier, new trees were planted along Regional Road No. 553 (Toruń–Wybcz, Toruń County). Preparations are now underway for tenders to plant trees along other modernized provincial roads. In spring, new tree rows and shrubs will appear along:
- Road No. 251 (Żnin and Inowrocław Counties),
- Road No. 551 (Chełmno and Toruń Counties),
- Road No. 550 (Chełmno County).
More Investments Along This Key Road
This year, the regional government has allocated funds for several road projects, including the reconstruction of a 2.5 km section of Provincial Road No. 266 between Piotrków Kujawski and Wójcin (Radziejów County), currently under way.
In Zakrzewo, pedestrian crossings along Provincial Road No. 252 (Inowrocław–Włocławek) at intersections with Road No. 266 will be fitted with additional lighting (permits are being obtained).
Procedures are also ongoing to obtain approval for a new roundabout in Ośno (connecting the regional road with a county road leading to Nieszawa). The project will be financed with European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie 2021–2027 (EFKP 2021–2027).
Funds from the European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie program are also being systematically allocated to local governments for bicycle infrastructure. Through EFKP 2021–2027, we co-financed the construction of a 1.4 km pedestrian and cycling path along Szybka Street in Radziejów.
Record Road Investments
A total of 2 billion zlotys will be allocated to the regional program for modernizing provincial roads over the coming years. Within the European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie 2021–2027 (EFKP 2021–2027) — our regional development program for the new funding period — €136 million has been earmarked for road investments, including the regional bypass construction program. Additional national co-financing will also support infrastructure development: approximately 170 million zlotys for bypasses and 450 million zlotys for other road expansions.
