Prof. Marek Jackowski, MD, PhD, Chief Medical Officer of the L. Rydygier Regional Integrated Hospital in Toruń, is celebrating 50 years of professional activity this year. During the jubilee ceremony, attended by the Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region, Piotr Całbecki, the professor met with representatives of the medical community and colleagues with whom he has shared his knowledge and experience for many years.

Prof. Jackowski heads the Department of General, Gastroenterological and Oncological Surgery at the Collegium Medicum of Nicolaus Copernicus University and has served as Chief Medical Officer of the L. Rydygier Regional Integrated Hospital in Toruń since 2003. He specializes in general surgery, with a particular focus on minimally invasive techniques such as laparoscopic and robotic surgery. A significant part of his work is devoted to educating the next generations of physicians.

Last year, Prof. Jackowski took part in the prestigious Clinical Congress of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) in San Francisco. During the event, he was admitted as a Fellow of the ACS – the world’s largest association of surgeons from all specialties, which requires the highest professional qualifications and impeccable ethical standards.

Selected awards and distinctions of Prof. Marek Jackowski:

• Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), 2024 – a prestigious recognition for surgeons.
• Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region Marshal’s Award, 2018 – for introducing the innovative TaTME (transanal total mesorectal excision) procedure; the Toruń clinic was the first center in Poland to perform it.
• Toruń Mayor’s Award, 2012.

On the occasion of Prof. Jackowski’s 50th professional anniversary, a celebratory gala was organized, accompanied by a special artistic program prepared by the Wilam Horzyca Theatre. The 1.5-hour program featured memories and anecdotes from the professor’s professional life. Musicians from the MDK orchestra and the hospital choir also performed, enriching the artistic setting of the event.
