Marshal’s Film Award for Daniel Olbrychski
Over six decades of his career, he has acted in nearly two hundred films. Directors cast him in adaptations of the most important works of Polish literature. Sienkiewicz’s Kmicic, Mickiewicz’s Gerwazy, Reymont’s Borowiecki all bear the face of Daniel Olbrychski. On Thursday (September 4), during the Przeźrocza Film Festival in Bydgoszcz, the actor received the Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region’s Pola Negri Film Award. The statuette was presented by Vice-Marshal Zbigniew Ostrowski.
– I belong to the generation that drew abundantly from your films. At my school, in a small town, the inauguration of our film club was combined with a visit to the cinema, where we saw “The Birch Wood” with you in one of the leading roles. That journey with you lasted for me through the following decades. Today, alongside the emotions of presenting you with this award, I feel extraordinary joy. This is a great moment for me – said Vice-Marshal Zbigniew Ostrowski.
The Pola Negri statuette, created by artist Zbigniew Mikielewicz, has already gone to seventeen filmmakers. Recipients have included Krzysztof Zanussi, Jan Englert, Katarzyna Figura, and Magdalena Różczka.
The Kujawsko-Pomorskie Regional self-government consistently supports the creators of the Tenth Muse through the Kujawy and Pomorze Film Fund. Soon, four productions co-financed by the fund will premiere: Chopin, Chopin, Good Home, Gingerbread Heart, and Murder in the Philharmonic.
The 11th edition of the Przeźrocza Film Festival, co-financed by the regional self-government, concludes today (September 6).
