New gymnasiums, sports fields, outdoor gyms and activity zones will be built – this year the regional self-government is allocating nearly PLN 7 million for the development of sports facilities in the region. Grand agreements were handed out today (24 July) in the Commune Library in Drzycim (Świecie County) to representatives of municipalities and counties by Vice-Marshal Aneta Jędrzejewska and Regional Councillor Michał Czepek.

“Within the framework of our programme [Kujawsko-Pomorskie Small Sports Infrastructure], between 2018 and 2024 we co-financed the implementation of almost 200 different investments for total PLN 6 million. This year was exceptional – not only by the record number of applications submitted, but also by the record amount of support we have provided.”, said Vice-Marshal Aneta Jędrzejewska. “We aren’t stopping there, we are going ahead and launching another project, this time in cooperation with the Ministry of Sport, thanks to which even more sports and leisure facilities will be built in our region.”

As a part of this year’s edition of the “Kujawsko-Pomorskie Small Sports Infrastructure” programme, a total of more than PLN 4 million will go to 57 regional self-governments. The funds, ranging from PLN 24,000 to PLN 100,000, will help to build pitches and outdoor gyms, purchase street workout equipment, modernise existing sports infrastructure and develop other publicly accessible activity zones for residents. Among the funded projects are the creation of an exercise area at the Glinki-Rupienica housing estate in Bydgoszcz, the construction of a basketball court in Samociążek (Bydgoszcz County), the construction of athletics track in Brodnica, the modernisation of a gymnasium at the School Complex in Radzyń Chełmiński (Grudziądz County) and the extension and retrofitting of sports infrastructure in Żnin.

Four contracts for the construction of school gymnasiums were also handed out at the meeting. The funding will enable sports halls to be added to schools in Piaski and Nicwałd (both in Grudziądz County), Drzycim (Świecie County) and Brodnica. Regional self-government will support these projects with a total of PLN 2 million 850 thousand.

We also regularly support athletes and subsidise the organisation of events.

More than 300 Kujawsko-Pomorskie athletes, coaches and sports activists were awarded prizes by the Regional Executive Board in May for their successes last year.

Athletes representing 30 sports clubs from across the region received scholarships from the Marshal of the region.

Next year, Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region will be the organiser of the World Athletics Indoor Championship, the most important indoor athletics event in the world.
