Preparations for the 2026 World Championships in Kujawsko-Pomorskie are in full swing
Marshal Piotr Całbecki and Toruń Mayor Paweł Gulewski signed a cooperation agreement concerning the organisation of next year’s World Indoor Athletics Championships Kujawy Pomorze 2026. The agreement covers promotional activities and necessary investments. Arena Toruń, which in March next year will be the venue for the world’s best athletes to compete, will change its name to ‘Kujawsko-Pomorska Arena Toruń’ for at least two years.
“There has never been an athletics event of this magnitude in the history of our voivodship. I am proud that the Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodship is the organiser of the championships and the title sponsor. Thank you, Mr Mayor, for allowing us to add ‘Kujawsko-Pomorskie’ to the distinguished name ‘Arena Toruń’, said Marshal Piotr Całbecki during the document signing ceremony.
“As the host city of this event, we want to be a reliable partner for the regional government and prepare ourselves as best as possible in terms of organisation, logistics, promotion and tourism. We are very keen to give these preparations our all,” emphasised Mayor Paweł Gulewski.
Preparations for the event are in full swing. The athletics surface at the Arena is already being replaced. The new surface will be adapted to the standards set by World Athletics, thanks to which the facility will have the status enabling it to host top-level athletics competitions. As part of the preparations for next year’s World Championships, we still have ahead of us, among other things, the modernisation of the telecommunications and IT infrastructure, renovation of the roof, renovation of the corridors and changing room facilities, modernisation of the water and sewage system and modernisation of access roads.
The 2026 World Indoor Athletics Championships in Kujawy-Pomerania is the largest athletics event in the history of the region and the second event of this rank in Poland. We hope that its organisation will have a lasting international promotional effect on both the region and Toruń.
