The walls of the Chopin Centre in Szafarnia are filled with the music of Chopin, Bach, Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven. This is thanks to the ongoing 32nd International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition for Children and Youth. Live broadcasts are available on the Centre’s YouTube channel. During the opening concert at Golub Castle, Hyuk Lee—finalist of the 2021 Chopin Competition in Warsaw—performed at the piano. The event is co-financed by the budget of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region  self-government.

“The International Piano Competition in Szafarnia is a celebration of music in tribute to a great composer, an outstanding Pole, and an extraordinary artistic personality on the world stage,” emphasizes Marshal Piotr Całbecki. “Many years ago, the landscapes of our region inspired young Fryderyk Chopin to compose several early pieces, the themes of which recur in the mature works of this brilliant Romantic. I believe that once again, the master’s works and the spirit of these places will resonate together, intertwining and complementing each other.”

The auditions will run until May 24. Participants perform selected piano pieces, with Fryderyk Chopin’s compositions forming the core of the repertoire. Their performances are evaluated by an international jury chaired by Professor Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń, with members: Professor Maria Murawska (Poland), Professor Wojciech Świtała (Poland), Professor Ingolf Wunder (Austria/Switzerland), and Professor Dina Yoffe (Latvia). The winners’ concert and awards ceremony are scheduled for May 25.
