Medal of the Marshal of the Voivodship for OSP Chełmno

Thank you for your daily service, dedication and readiness to help,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki during Friday’s (16 May) provincial Fireman’s Day celebrations in Chełmno. During the ceremony, Jakub Guzek, president of the Chełmno Voluntary Fire Brigade, received the Marshal’s Medal Unitas Durat Palatinatus Cuiaviano-Pomeraniensis awarded to this formation. The firefighters were congratulated by Katarzyna Lubańska, Vice-Chairwoman of the Regional Assembly of the Voivodeship, Zbigniew Sosnowski, MP, Tomasz Szymański, Vice-Minister for Internal Affairs and Administration, and Piotr Hemmerling, Vice-Voivode.

For 150 years, the Chełmno firefighters have been serving the local community. Fulfilling the responsible task of protecting life and property, the firefighters enjoy high public trust. I congratulate you on this beautiful jubilee. I wish that the number of returns from action was the same as the number of trips to action – said Marshal Piotr Całbecki during the ceremony in Chełmno.

The rescue and firefighting system in our country is based on units of the State Fire Service and local TSO units. In Kujawy and Pomerania, 1,600 firefighters serve in the State Fire Service (in 30 firefighting and rescue units operating under the wings of the Regional Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Toruń; we have 15 district headquarters and 4 municipal ones). There are 800 firefighting units in Kujawsko-Pomorskie, with 30,000 firefighters and bridesmaids on duty. In 2024, firefighters in our region carried out 30,000 interventions.

The Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodship’s local government has for years consistently supported the State Fire Service and TSO formations in the purchase of equipment and accessories and the construction of training infrastructure. The support dedicated to the units of the State Fire Service and Voluntary Fire Brigades under our regional European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie amounts to 27 million euros.
