The President of the Regional Parliament, Elżbieta Piniewska, attended the Convention of Presidents of the Regional Parliaments of the Republic of Poland on 9 April. The meeting discussed celebrating an important anniversary for Poland, the problems of the elderly, the lonely and the sick, as well as formal issues relating to the activities of the regional assemblies.

At the beginning of the meeting, the assumptions and plan for the celebration of the Millennium of the Polish Kingdom in Kraków and Małopolska – the jubilee of the coronation of Bolesław Chrobry as the first king of Poland – were presented. Promotional activities, educational, cultural and sporting events were planned on this occasion. In the next item, the Convention adopted a resolution on the declaration of commemoration of this momentous anniversary.

– The 1000th anniversary of the first royal coronation in our history is a testimony to the rich tradition and culture of our homeland, which has joined the mainstream of European politics on an equal footing with other kingdoms (…). The jubilee of the 1000th anniversary of the first coronation of a Polish king, celebrated in 2025, through reference to an act of fundamental significance for Polish statehood, has a considerable impact on the formation of historical awareness and shaping appropriate patriotic attitudes of contemporary generations of Poles,’ reads the adopted declaration.

Later in the meeting, the possibilities of helping the elderly, the sick and lonely were discussed. Solutions were given, among others, on the example of the ‘Małopolska Tele-Anil’ project, implemented with EU funds, which aims primarily to increase the sense of security of those in need of support in their daily lives. Modern technologies, such as telecare and telemedicine, are being used to develop care services.

At the end of the meeting, the Presidency of the Convention of Presidents of Voivodship Parliaments of the Republic of Poland was handed over to the Łódzkie Voivodship.

The April Convention of Presidents of Regional Parliaments of the Republic of Poland was hosted by the Małopolskie Voivodeship. The session of the representatives of the regional assemblies of 16 voivodships was held in Kraków.

The Convention of Voivodship Assembly Chairmen is a consultative and advisory body of the Union of Voivodships of the Republic of Poland. It was established on 2 April 2009 in Gdańsk. The task of the Convention is to initiate and give an opinion on draft legislation, inspire joint civic, social and economic initiatives and promote the activities of the Union.
