Belief in the power of theatre is like a jewel of our culture

Actors, members of artistic ensembles, as well as valued professionals from other fields working for Kujawsko-Pomorskie stages, received awards from the voivodship’s marshal for Theatre Day today (7 April). On the occasion of International Theatre Day, we are rewarding outstanding personalities of the stages in our region, as well as those thanks to whom theatre creators can realise their own artistic creations. Theatre Day was established in June 1961 during the 9th World Congress of the International Theatre Institute (ITI) in Helsinki. The day of celebration was set for 27 March, the anniversary of the opening of the Theatre of Nations in Paris. Every year, the ITI honours outstanding artists, creators of the most significant theatrical phenomena of the globe, by allowing them to publish a personal message for International Theatre Day. This year’s author is Theodoros Terzopoulos, Greek director and playwright, founder of the Attis Theatre.

The message for the Polish Centre of the International Theatre Institute was written by Irena Jun, an actress and theatre director associated with the Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz Studio Theatre in Warsaw.
