Supporting the Third Sector
– Non-governmental organizations are key partners of the regional self-government in nearly every aspect of social and economic life. Their valuable knowledge and experience make joint initiatives more effective and impactful – emphasizes Marshal Piotr Całbecki. On Thursday, February 27, we celebrate World NGO Day.
– I sincerely thank everyone involved in various areas of the third sector for their immense work for our region, added the Marshal.
This year, we will support NGOs with over 7 million PLN, which—through open grant competitions—will be allocated to 414 third-sector organizations. Thanks to these funds, support will reach families, adoption centers, individuals with disabilities, as well as organizations promoting a healthy lifestyle and physical culture among children and youth.
In the current financial perspective, Local Action Groups, which partner with the regional self-government under the Marshal’s Civic Budget, have 50 million euros available for social policy projects, including those run by NGOs.
The first category of projects funded under this scheme aims to support young people’s personal development outside the formal education system.
Another focus area includes initiatives aimed at preventing social and psychological isolation among seniors. This includes funding for senior clubs, lifelong learning programs (universities of the third age), and community-based support networks.
This year marks the sixth term of the Public Benefit Council, which advises the regional self-government on third-sector affairs. The Council works closely with the Parliament of Non-Governmental Organizations of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region.
Collaboration with NGOs is facilitated by the Office for Cooperation with Non-Governmental Organizations, which maintains an up-to-date database of NGOs and their activities. It also promotes innovative initiatives and organizes training sessions for third-sector professionals.
We also support the capacity-building of NGOs and their employees by offering expert consultations on law, accounting, and financial management. Last year, 11 organizations received legal consultations, and 13 used accounting consultations.
Every year, we encourage residents to donate 1.5% of their income tax to one of the 394 public benefit organizations operating in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region. In 2024 (for the 2023 tax year), 715,000 taxpayers donated over 75 million PLN to local NGOs.
