INFORMATION PORTAL OF THE MARSHAL'S OFFICE OF THE KUJAWSKO-POMORSKIE Region IN TORUŃ

A battle reenactment, displays of historical uniforms, weaponry, and military equipment were all part of an outdoor event held last Saturday (February 1) in Borówno (Chełmno County) to commemorate the battle fought there in 1945.

Several reenactment groups recreated the events that took place in the Lower Vistula Valley during the winter of 1945. In the so-called “Toruń Battle Zone,” fierce battles occurred between retreating German forces from Toruń and formations of the Red Army. The reenactors faithfully recreated the course of the battle, with historical commentary provided by Olaf Popkiewicz and Wojciech Ozdoba.

The event organizers—the Association for the Preservation of Traditional Polish Village and the Bieńkówka Country Housewives’ Association—also prepared a culinary segment featuring traditional military pea soup and sausages roasted over an open fire.
