XIII Marshal’s Charity Ball

Four hundred and thirty guests will participate in tomorrow’s (January 18) XIII Marshal’s Charity Ball, the proceeds from which will be donated to the Special Educational Centre of the Congregation of Sisters of St. Elizabeth in Grudziądz, the Dorota Targowska Foundation, and its beneficiaries, as well as previous beneficiaries of the ball, including foreign missions. Over the course of twelve previous editions, more than 3 million PLN has been raised, primarily to support children and young people.

 

– “I would like to thank all those who accepted the invitation to the Marshal’s Charity Ball, organized since 2010. So far, we have raised over 3 million PLN, which has been donated to organizations helping people with disabilities, as well as those in need outside of Poland – emphasized Marshal Piotr Całbecki during a press conference on Tuesday (January 14).

 

For the auction, 150 items have been prepared, including vouchers for various attractions, works of art, and items donated by public figures. Among them are a painting by Julian Fałat from 1920, created using gouache, an evening gown designed by Katarzyna Zapała, donated by actress Aleksandra Popławska, and a pen and ink set offered by Prime Minister Donald Tusk. There is also a painting by Maria Koli depicting a scene from the film “Chłopi” (The Peasants) gifted by the artist. A special graphic created for the ball by actor Łukasz Simlat will surely interest art enthusiasts, and hockey fans may be excited about a goalkeeper’s stick from Anton Svensson of the Toruń Energii Hockey Team. Additionally, a book with Robert Małecki’s autograph, “Zapadlina”, will be auctioned off along with a dedication to be included in the entire print run of the author’s upcoming book. A dinner with Wojciech Fibak will also be part of the auction.

 

The beneficiaries of the XIII Marshal’s Charity Ball are the Special Educational Centre of the Congregation of Sisters of St. Elizabeth in Grudziądz, which supports 43 intellectually disabled boys aged 6 to 24, and the Dorota Targowska Foundation, which aids in the treatment and rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities, particularly Down syndrome, and provides support to their families. Traditionally, some funds will also go to the beneficiaries of previous editions and international missions.

 

The star of this year’s ball will be Natasza Urbańska with her band and dancers. Part of the Fife Kirkcaldy and District Pipe Band from the East Coast of Scotland will travel to Toruń. The event’s musical program will include performances by the Eliasz Orchestra from Bydgoszcz and the String Quintet of the Pomeranian Philharmonic. The Ziemia Bydgoska Song and Dance Ensemble and the Military Orchestra of Bydgoszcz will also perform. The hosts of the ball will be Grażyna Nita and Maciej Puto, while the main auction will be conducted by Rafał Rykowski.

 

Main Auction Items

Among the guests attending the XIII Marshal’s Charity Ball are director Jerzy Skolimowski, singer Robert Janowski, actresses Aleksandra Popławska, Marek Kalita, and Łukasz Simlat, as well as television director Konrad Smuga. A total of 430 people will participate in this thirteenth edition of the event. Over the twelve previous editions, 4,400 guests attended the ball.
