New Roundabout to Improve Traffic Flow in Broniewice

Marshal Piotr Całbecki and Chairwoman of the Regional Assembly Elżbieta Piniewska participated today (May 14) in the ceremonial opening of a new roundabout in Broniewice in Inowrocław County. The roundabout was built at the intersection of Regional Road No. 255 and the county road leading toward Janikowo and Inowrocław. The investment was carried out using European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze for 2021–2027.

“The roundabout in Broniewice is another safe intersection within the regional road network and an important element of our plan to modernize the entire road connecting Pakość and Strzelno. This year, we will also complete the construction of a new section of this route in Trląg and another roundabout in Rzadkwin. These are long-awaited projects that we discussed with residents,” emphasized Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

“One of the most important expectations of residents is a sense of safety, including safety on the roads. That is why investments improving travel comfort and transport efficiency are so important. I am convinced that this new roundabout will improve safety for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists, while also organizing traffic in this part of the region. We would like to see more investments of this kind, which is why I look forward to further projects serving local communities,” said Chairwoman of the Regional Assembly Elżbieta Piniewska.

The ceremony was also attended by Senator Ryszard Brejza, Member of the European Parliament Krzysztof Brejza, and Mayor of Janikowo Bartłomiej Jaszcz.

The construction of the roundabout in Broniewice was combined with the reconstruction of a section of Regional Road No. 255 from the railway crossing to property No. 300 (approximately 440 meters in length). In addition, a new section of the county road toward Janikowo (up to the causeway) was built. The old road running alongside the railway tracks was demolished. This solution made it possible to move the new roundabout farther away from the existing railway crossing on the Poznań-Inowrocław line.

As part of the new three-entry roundabout intersection, sidewalks and pedestrian crossings were constructed. A new bus bay was also built before the entrance to the roundabout from the Strzelno side. The project also included the construction of drainage systems, property access roads, and agricultural field entrances. The flattened western side of the central island additionally enables oversized vehicles to pass through. In early spring, lighting for the entire intersection was activated.

The construction works, worth PLN 6.2 million, were carried out by Polbud Polak from Mogilno County. The investment was financed with a high 95 percent subsidy from the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze for 2021–2027.

More Investments Along This Important Route

In December last year, works were also completed on the expansion of a 3-kilometer section of Regional Road No. 255 between Rzadkwin and Bławaty. The project involved building a completely new road structure practically from scratch. New shoulders and bus bays were created. An important part of the investment was the construction of rainwater retention reservoirs and drainage ditches. Work is still underway to finalize procedures related to supplying electricity to the new lighting at pedestrian crossings and bus stops.

The contractor for the works, worth PLN 16.8 million, was the company Strabag. The project was financed from the regional budget and through government funding support exceeding PLN 10 million.

Preparations are underway for further investments along Regional Road No. 255 connecting Strzelno and Pakość. The regional budget has secured funds, among other things, for the construction of the Trląg bypass. The tender procedure for construction works is currently in progress. The works will cover a section with a total length of 3.1 kilometers (from the edge of the construction site of the new roundabout in Broniewice to the cemetery in Trląg). Most of the new roadway will run through agricultural land, allowing the project to proceed without any demolitions.

A tender is also underway for the reconstruction of another section of this road in Rzadkwin in Mogilno County. The main element of the investment will be the construction of a safe roundabout at the location currently operating with a so-called “broken priority” traffic arrangement. The roads leading to the roundabout will be separated by traffic-dividing islands. Reinforced shoulders are planned along the entire route. The roundabout will also be adapted for oversized vehicles. Properly profiled ditches and new culverts will ensure drainage. Four companies are interested in carrying out the project, estimating the value of the investment at between PLN 6 million and PLN 8 million.

Record Spending on Roads

PLN 2 billion will be allocated in the coming years to the regional programme for modernization of regional roads. Under the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021-2027 (FEdKP 2021–2027), the regional programme for the new financial perspective, we are allocating EUR 136 million for road investments, including our regional bypass construction programme. For some road infrastructure expansion projects, we will also use central government funding obtained for this purpose (approximately PLN 170 million for bypasses and around PLN 450 million for the expansion of other roads).
