“Latarnik” Returns to the Seaside

The Tri-City, Władysławowo, Jastarnia, Jurata and Hel – from Saturday (27 June), travellers will once again be able to reach these popular holiday destinations aboard the Marshal’s seasonal train “Latarnik” (“The Lighthouse Keeper”). The service will allow passengers to spend an entire day on the Hel Peninsula and return to Bydgoszcz in the glow of the setting sun. “Latarnik” will run daily until 31 August.

Safe and comfortable transport during the holiday season has been one of our priorities for several years. This year’s arrival and departure times of the ‘Latarnik’ will allow travellers to spend as much as nine hours in Hel. I am convinced that residents of our region will gladly take advantage of our summer rail connections,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

“Latarnik”

On its way to Hel, the “Latarnik”, which begins its route at Bydgoszcz Główna railway station, will stop in Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia, as well as in the popular resorts of the Hel Peninsula – Kuźnica, Chałupy, Jastarnia and Jurata. The highly popular service will be operated by Arriva RP.

The timetable has been arranged to enable passengers travelling from Grudziądz to transfer conveniently at Laskowice Pomorskie. The operator has also prepared promotional ticket prices and discounts on selected attractions in Hel. Family tickets will be 20% cheaper, return tickets purchased at the same time will be discounted by 15%, and groups of 4–9 people will receive a 10% reduction on the standard fare.

“Borsuk” and “Rybitwa”

Fans of kayaking, forest tranquillity and waterside relaxation will be able to travel to Tleń (Świecie County) on our second seasonal train, “Borsuk” (“Badger”). From 27 June, the timetable will also include the return of the third seasonal service, “Rybitwa” (“Tern”), a direct weekend train connecting Toruń with Kołobrzeg.

Financial compensation, in the form of subsidies from the Marshal’s Office to the passenger rail operators selected through public tender (Arriva and Polregio), will reach a record PLN 267 million in 2026. This amount also includes infrastructure access charges and station fees, which total PLN 37 million.

The regional government currently operates its own fleet of thirty-three trains, which continues to expand. In 2027, seven additional modern trainsets, currently being manufactured by Pesa in Bydgoszcz, will enter service. The contract is worth PLN 240 million and is financed through the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021–2027 regional programme and the state budget.

The recently announced Integrated Railway Network presents government investment plans that will significantly improve public transport for residents of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region.

Key Investments Planned for the Region

  • Construction of the high-speed rail line: Port Polska – Płock – Włocławek – Toruń – Grudziądz – Gdańsk
  • Construction of a railway line to Świecie and further on to Grudziądz
