Summer train travel? Seasonal services are now up and running (photos)
The Marshal’s Office’s popular seasonal trains are back on the tracks, offering residents of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region convenient connections to some of the most popular holiday destinations on the Baltic coast and in the Tuchola Forest. On Saturday (27 June), the Latarnik, Borsuk and Rybitwa trains departed from Bydgoszcz and Toruń on their first journeys of the season.
“I am convinced that, just as last year, residents of our region will eagerly take advantage of our attractive summer rail offer. Have a wonderful holiday!” says Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
Latarnik
The Latarnik departs from Bydgoszcz Główna station and travels via Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia to the Hel Peninsula. It also stops at the popular seaside resorts of Kuźnica, Chałupy, Jastarnia and Jurata. The service is an ideal choice for anyone looking to spend a day on Poland’s Baltic coast, enjoying wide sandy beaches, lively promenades and the unique atmosphere of one of the country’s most beautiful coastal destinations. The train is operated by Arriva RP.
The timetable has been designed to allow passengers travelling from Grudziądz to make a convenient connection at Laskowice Pomorskie.
The operator has introduced promotional fares, including:
- 20% off family tickets,
- 15% discount on return tickets,
- 10% discount for groups of 4–9 passengers.
Borsuk
Fans of kayaking, peaceful forest landscapes and lakeside relaxation can travel to Tleń (Świecie County) aboard the seasonal Borsuk train. The service runs from Toruń via Grudziądz and Tleń to Czersk in the Pomeranian Voivodeship.
The official opening of the summer season took place in Tleń on Saturday. The hot weather encouraged visitors to spend time by the water, while a range of attractions helped them cool off and enjoy an active day. Passengers arriving by train were welcomed with tastings of regional dishes, water rescue demonstrations, exhibitions by the Wda Landscape Park and the Kociewie Regional Museum, as well as displays of historical artefacts connected with the Kociewie region and the Tuchola Forest.
The programme also included water tram cruises, opportunities to try out rescue boats operated by the Volunteer Water Rescue Service (WOPR), guided nature walks highlighting the region’s natural heritage, and refreshments served at the Miller’s House.
The event was organised by the Municipality of Osie, the Świecie County Office, the Brotherhood of the Black Water, Arriva RP and the Marshal’s Office of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region.
Rybitwa
The seasonal weekend Rybitwa train has also returned, once again providing a direct connection between Toruń and Kołobrzeg. On Sunday, the train carried children from the Primary School in Trzebcz Szlachecki and a group of senior citizens to the Baltic coast.
For more than a year, the seasonal offer has been complemented by a direct weekday service (Monday to Friday) between Bydgoszcz and Kołobrzeg.
Passengers can also travel directly to Szczecin on the Barnim train, co-financed by the self-governments of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Greater Poland and West Pomeranian regions. The train departs daily from Bydgoszcz Główna station.
Regional trains for summer leisure
Passengers can also use regional train services to reach popular recreational destinations including:
- Chmielniki (Bydgoszcz County),
- Kamionki (Toruń County),
- Iława (Warmińsko-Mazurskie Region).
Record investment in regional rail
In 2026, financial compensation paid by the regional self-government to the rail operators selected through public tender – Arriva and Polregio – will reach a record PLN 267 million. This amount also covers infrastructure access charges and station fees, which total PLN 37 million.
The regional government currently operates a fleet of 33 modern trains, which continues to expand. Next year, another seven trainsets built by the Bydgoszcz-based manufacturer Pesa will enter service. The total value of the order is PLN 330 million.
There is more good news. The recently announced concept for Poland’s Integrated Railway Network includes plans for several new rail connections in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region, as well as a future high-speed rail line.
The key projects proposed for the region include:
- construction of the Port Polska – Płock – Włocławek – Toruń – Grudziądz – Gdańsk high-speed railway,
- construction of a railway line to Świecie and onward to Grudziądz,
- construction of the Bydgoszcz – Szubin – Żnin – Gniezno railway,
- construction of the Włocławek – Radziejów – Kruszwica railway.
Regional trains are ready to take you on your summer adventures.
