The Tuchola Forest is within easy reach

Fans of canoe trips, the soothing silence of the forest, and relaxation by the water will be able to travel to Tleń (Świecie County) aboard the regional government’s seasonal holiday train, “Borsuk” (Badger), starting on Saturday, June 27. The official inauguration of the service, combined with a family picnic, will take place on Sunday, June 28, near the railway station in Tleń.

Safe and comfortable transportation during the holiday season has been one of our priorities for several years. Train services to the picturesque Tuchola Forest offer an attractive way to spend leisure time. I am convinced that residents of the region will gladly take advantage of our summer rail connections,” says Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

The “Borsuk” train will depart from Toruń Główny station and travel via Chełmża, Grudziądz, Laskowice Pomorskie, Tleń and Szlachta before reaching its final destination, Czersk, in the Pomorskie Region.

As part of the official launch, visitors are invited to Tleń on Sunday, June 28. Passengers will enjoy a variety of attractions, including tastings of local specialties, water rescue demonstrations, exhibits by the Wda Landscape Park, and the Kociewie Regional Heritage Chamber.

Participants will also have the opportunity to view an interesting exhibition of historical artifacts related to the Kociewie region and the Tuchola Forest. The program includes rides on a water tram, the chance to try out rescue equipment used by the Water Volunteer Rescue Service (WOPR), and guided nature walks highlighting the region’s unique environmental assets.

Despite the forecasted heatwave, water-based activities will provide an excellent opportunity to cool off and relax. All participants will also be treated to soup served at the Miller’s House (Dom Młynarza). Participation in all attractions is free of charge.

The event is co-organized by the Municipality of Osie, the Świecie County Office, the Brotherhood of the Black Water (Bractwo Czarnej Wody), Arriva, and the Marshal’s Office of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.

Seasonal Train Services Return on June 27

The following seasonal direct train services will return to the timetable:

  • “Rybitwa” – a weekend direct train from Toruń to Kołobrzeg
  • “Latarnik” – a direct summer train to Hel

Passengers can already take advantage of regional trains serving popular holiday destinations in:

  • Chmielniki (Bydgoszcz County)
  • Kamionki (Toruń County)
  • Iława (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship)

Record Investment in Regional Rail Transport

In 2026, financial compensation paid by the Marshal’s Office to the railway operators selected through public tender procedures—Arriva and Polregio—will reach a record PLN 267 million. This amount also includes infrastructure access charges and station fees totaling PLN 37 million.

The regional government currently owns a fleet of 33 trains, which continues to expand. In 2027, an additional seven modern trainsets, manufactured by the Bydgoszcz-based company Pesa, will enter service. The contract is worth PLN 240 million and is financed through the European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie 2021–2027 Regional Programme and the state budget.

More Good News for the Region

The recently announced Integrated Railway Network includes several new rail connections that will significantly improve public transport for residents of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region.
