Green Village – how to integrate local communities in a healthy and eco-friendly way

An environmentally focused regional programme called Green Village (Zielone Sołectwo) was announced by Piotr Całbecki during yesterday’s (31 March) meeting of the Regional Council of Village Heads. The meeting with representatives of rural leaders from across the region was also attended by Katarzyna Lubańska and Ryszard Bober.

“Planting trees, education, promotion of a healthy lifestyle – it will be up to you to decide how these funds are ultimately used. This will be a partnership project, with the Regional Centre for Sustainable Development acting as the lead partner on behalf of the regional self-government,” Marshal Piotr Całbecki informed the village heads.

The programme’s budget will amount to 10 million PLN. The main source of funding will be the regional programme European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021–2027, while municipalities will contribute 20% of the value of the projects.

During the meeting, participants also discussed issues related to the village fund (a form of participatory budgeting at the municipal level), the government’s planned “odour act”—regulations intended to limit nuisance caused by unpleasant smells from sources such as large-scale livestock farms and biogas plants—and cooperation between villages and local action groups.
