European Night of Museums in the Region
Every year in May, during one special night, museums open their doors wide to visitors. On Saturday (16 May), cultural institutions run by the regional government will also invite the public to free meetings, workshops, presentations, and guided tours.
“The European Night of Museums is an opportunity to explore fascinating exhibitions, listen to interesting lectures, and enjoy the rich cultural offer of our institutions. I encourage everyone to take part and experience the Night of Museums in a unique way,” says Piotr Całbecki.
A unique journey inspired by the world of film and film music will be offered by the Pomeranian Philharmonic. During guided tours of the building, visitors will learn about its architecture, works of art, and the behind-the-scenes work of musicians. The programme also includes short concerts featuring music known from the big screen and screenings of music films.
Free guided tours and a surprise midnight concert in the rotunda hall await visitors at Lubostroń Palace. Those interested can register by sending an SMS message to the organizers. Details are available on the palace’s social media channels.
As part of the Night of Museums, the Wozownia Art Gallery will host a curatorial tour of the 12th International Student Drawing Exhibition “To Draw or Not to Draw.” Curators Martyna Rzepecka and Ola Sojak-Borodo will discuss the idea and history of the competition and present the award-winning works.
The Ethnographic Museum in Toruń has also prepared numerous attractions, inviting visitors on a journey through the open-air museum following the theme of fire – one of the four elements important to the region’s former inhabitants. The programme includes themed games, creative activities, and even an RPG session.
At the Kujawy and Dobrzyń Land Museum in Włocławek, highlights of the programme include workshops for children, wooden puzzles, traditional cuisine prepared by the Chełmica Mała Rural Housewives’ Association, presentations of traditional Kujawy women’s costumes, and guided exhibition tours.
The Regional and Municipal Public Library in Bydgoszcz is also participating in the European Night of Museums. In addition to tours of the Bernardine Library, the programme includes a bookbinding demonstration, lectures, a book fair, and a film-themed quiz.
At the Centre of Contemporary Art Znaki Czasu in Toruń, visitors will be able to enjoy night sky observations from the terrace, an astronomy lecture, NASA film screenings, exhibition tours, and discounts at the Art Bookstore.
There are no longer any free tickets available for tours of Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz. All places have also been booked for the “Mysterious Night at the Museum” organized by the Archaeological Museum in Biskupin.
