Cardinal Józef Glemp
Cardinal Józef Glemp, who served as the Primate of Poland for 28 years, became the first honorary citizen in the history of our region. The title was awarded to him in recognition of his contributions during his tenure as the highest-ranking figure in the Polish Catholic Church during the challenging years of the People’s Republic of Poland (PRL) and the subsequent period of political transformation.
“He carried out his duties in the most dignified manner. Poland would not be the same without the contributions of the Primate. We can be proud that the Primate is one of our own from Inowrocław,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki in his welcoming speech.
“He served both Poland and the Church well,” stated Deputy Chairman of the Regional Assembly Grzegorz Schreiber in his laudatory speech, emphasizing that thanks to Cardinal Glemp’s personal support, many parishes were established in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie region, along with new institutions that fostered spiritual development.
