More Green Avenues Along Regional Roads
We are accelerating the Marshal’s programme to restore roadside tree-lined avenues. This autumn, nearly 800 mature trees and 1,400 shrubs will be planted along regional roads in Tuchola, Świecie, Brodnica, Toruń and Rypin counties.
“By restoring green roadside avenues, we aim to compensate for losses to the ecosystem caused by various investment projects. Trees provide natural environmental protection: they shield the land from wind and erosion, provide shelter for birds and insects, and help maintain soil fertility,” says Marshal Piotr Całbecki. “We want to see an increasing number of green avenues along regional roads. We are allocating a total of PLN 18 million for this purpose.”
Along Regional Road No. 240 in Tuchola and Świecie counties, we will plant 196 lime trees, 108 maple trees and 47 rowan trees. The new trees will be planted, among other locations, in the municipalities of Kęsowo, Tuchola, Lubiewo, including along the Płazowo bypass, and Bukowiec.
Along Regional Road No. 543 in Brodnica County, 63 lime trees and 22 rowan trees will be planted. They will be located on the section between Jabłonowo Pomorskie and Grzybno. Later this year, we will also complete the reconstruction of a section of this route between Mileszewy and Wichulec.
New planting has also been planned along Regional Road No. 553 in Toruń County. A total of 239 lime trees and 42 hawthorn trees will be planted in the existing gaps between Dębiny and Różankowo. The green belts will also feature 1,380 shrubs, including common sea buckthorn, Russian olive, European smoketree, sweet mock orange, Tatarian honeysuckle and rugosa rose. The planting will complement the ongoing renovation of the road between Różankowo and Łubianka.
Regional Road No. 557 in the municipality of Rypin will also become greener on the section from the city boundary to Balin. Seventy lime trees will be planted there. This year, we are also renovating the Stary Kobrzyniec–Nadróż and Makówiec–Janiszewo sections of this route, covering a total of 10 kilometres.
A tender procedure for the autumn planting is currently under way. The contract includes preparing the sites, supplying large saplings, planting them, providing ongoing maintenance, including fertilisation and watering, and creating water-retention basins around the trees. At a height of 1.3 metres, the saplings must have a trunk circumference of at least 20 centimetres. The project will be financed through the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021–2027.
In spring, rows of trees were planted along the Chełmno bypass, a section of Regional Road No. 551 in Raciniewo in Chełmno County, and Regional Road No. 251 between Barcin and Pakość in Żnin and Inowrocław counties. Earlier planting projects included Regional Road No. 553 between Toruń and Wybcz in Toruń County and Regional Road No. 266 between Ciechocinek and Zakrzewo in Aleksandrów County.
Record Spending on Roads
PLN 2 billion will be allocated to the regional road modernisation programme over the coming years. Under the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021–2027, our regional programme for the new EU financial perspective, EUR 136 million has been earmarked for road investment projects, including our regional bypass construction programme.
Some road infrastructure projects will also be financed with funding obtained from central government sources, including approximately PLN 170 million for bypasses and around PLN 450 million for the expansion of other roads.
