Regions Must Have an Influence on the Investment of European Funds After 2027

Marshal Piotr Całbecki is participating today in Warsaw in the annual conference organized by Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego and dedicated to local governments, focusing on the challenges related to financing regional and local development. During a panel discussion on the new EU cohesion policy, the head of our region emphasized that regions must retain a real influence over the way European funds are used.

“Today, there is no alternative to EU funding if we want to maintain Poland’s pace of development, make up for existing gaps, and pursue further ambitious development goals,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki during the debate, in which Deputy Minister Jacek Karnowski from the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy was also one of the speakers.

During the same discussion, Deputy Minister Jacek Karnowski stated that the Polish government, similarly to the Polish regions, supports the decentralization of the management of EU funds under the 2028–2034 financial perspective at the national level. According to the current government assumptions, 44 percent of the funds allocated to Poland under the new cohesion policy would remain under the control of regional self-governments.
