Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region at Polish Day at NATO Headquarters in Mons

Representatives of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region took part on Friday (15 May) in this year’s Polish Day at NATO’s Supreme Headquarters in the Belgian city of Mons. The event, organised by the Polish National Military Representation to the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, was attended by Colonel Aureliusz Chyleński, Director of the Department of Security and Social Resilience Building, and Colonel Dr Eugeniusz Lala, Head of the Defence and Civil Protection Division.

Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) is one of NATO’s two strategic commands. Polish Day is an annual event organised to mark Poland’s Constitution Day of 3 May. It brings together the several-thousand-strong SHAPE community – military personnel and their families – as well as members of the Polish community living in Belgium. This year’s edition took the form of a large picnic celebrating Polish culture, music, and traditional cuisine, creating a joyful family atmosphere in the heart of NATO’s international environment.

The event was officially opened with a concert by the Representative Artistic Ensemble of the Polish Armed Forces, featuring both orchestra musicians and soloists. Their diverse repertoire ranged from Polish military songs to internationally recognised classics enjoyed by audiences from around the world. The performance gave the celebration both a ceremonial and multicultural character.

The Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region presented an extensive cultural and scientific programme in Mons. Participants could take part in gingerbread-making workshops showcasing regional traditions, as well as astronomy workshops inspired by the legacy of Nicolaus Copernicus. Great interest was also attracted by the new technologies zone prepared by the Institute of Technical Sciences at Nicolaus Copernicus University, where guests were able to see and test robotics solutions firsthand.

The regional exhibition space was further enriched by a mobile exhibition from Galeria Rusz and the interactive educational games exhibition “The Copernican Principle.” Another highlight of the programme was the immersive installation “Planetary Nebula Laboratory,” while DJ Funktion performances added a musical finale to the event.

Participation in Polish Day was another opportunity to promote the region’s cultural and scientific potential and to strengthen relationships with partners from NATO member states. In light of the current geopolitical situation in Europe, such contacts are becoming increasingly important – and the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region continues to maintain and develop them consistently.
