We are investing in modern and eco-friendly transport

Another batch of nine electric buses and five hybrid vehicles has joined the fleet of the regional company Kujawsko-Pomorski Transport Samochodowy (KPTS). The first buses have already started operating on routes, while the final batch will arrive in June. In total, 40 newly purchased buses will be running on the roads of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie region.

The modern and environmentally friendly vehicles were officially received today (April 20) in front of the Marshal’s Office by Vice-Marshals Aneta Jędrzejewska and Zbigniew Ostrowski, President of the Regional Parliament Elżbieta Piniewska, members of the regional board Marek Wojtkowski and Dariusz Kurzawa, as well as regional councillors.

We have purchased a total of 25 electric buses and 15 hybrid vehicles for 106 million PLN, with a record 77 million PLN in funding from the National Recovery Plan. The buses are modern, eco-friendly, and adapted for regional transport. They will connect Włocławek, Toruń, and Bydgoszcz with smaller towns in our region,” said Vice-Marshal Aneta Jędrzejewska.

The purchase of buses is another step in implementing the regional assembly’s consistent and conscious pro-environmental policy. What matters to me is that the vehicles are adapted for passengers with disabilities,” emphasized Chair of the Regional Assembly Elżbieta Piniewska.

These vehicles are built with great care and high quality, which will significantly improve travel comfort. It is worth noting that the buses are environmentally friendly, as they use green energy,” added regional councillor Tadeusz Pogoda, Chair of the Regional Policy, Development and Infrastructure Committee.

The new electric buses can easily cover up to 400 kilometers per day. Their routes are planned so they can complete them without the need for additional charging during the day,” said KPTS CEO Tomasz Fic.

Before going into service, we had to undergo training. The biggest differences compared to diesel buses are the silence and the automatic transmission,” said electric bus driver Krzysztof Kamiński.

The new vehicles also feature:

  • comfortable seats with integrated headrests, armrests, and seat belts
  • a passenger information system with display boards
  • a modern audio system
  • a Wi-Fi router
  • facilities for passengers with disabilities

The buses received on Monday (April 20) will operate on the following routes:

  • Brodnica – Toruń – Brodnica
  • Brodnica – Bydgoszcz – Brodnica
  • Lipno – Bydgoszcz – Lipno
  • Golub-Dobrzyń – Toruń – Golub-Dobrzyń
  • Golub-Dobrzyń – Brodnica – Golub-Dobrzyń
  • Golub-Dobrzyń – Rypin – Golub-Dobrzyń
  • Nowe Miasto Lubawskie – Toruń – Nowe Miasto Lubawskie
  • Rypin – Bydgoszcz – Rypin
  • Rypin – Lipno – Rypin
  • Kłodawa – Włocławek – Kłodawa
  • Włocławek – Brodnica – Włocławek
  • Aleksandrów Kujawski – Włocławek – Aleksandrów Kujawski
  • Ciechocinek – Inowrocław – Ciechocinek

The first vehicles arrived at the KPTS depot in December 2025. The third delivery—another nine electric buses and five hybrids—is scheduled for June. The supplier is ABP Bus & Coach (a representative of the Iveco Group in Poland), selected through a public tender.

To support the new fleet, new charging stations are being built. The carrier’s base is also being modernized, and advanced preparations are underway for the construction of entirely new bus stations in Rypin, Mogilno, and Golub-Dobrzyń.

At the invitation of the regional government—the main shareholder of KPTS—25 municipalities and 8 counties have joined the initiative. The offer is also open to other local governments in the region.

The regional government is also responsible for organizing rail connections. Spending on rail transport will reach a record 267 million PLN in 2026, including 37 million PLN for access to railway infrastructure and station fees.
