Pre-Premiere Screening of Nadiezhda on 8 December in Toruń

A pre-premiere screening of Nadiezhda, directed by Elizaveta Dedal with cinematography by Marianna Korman, will take place at the “Niebieski Kocyk” cinema in Toruń on 8 December 2025 at 7:30 p.m. After the screening, a discussion with the filmmakers is planned.

Set in a Polish orchard during cherry season, the film introduces two young women: Nadiezhda, a Ukrainian who comes to Poland to support her underage son and mother, and Nadia, a Russian student earning money during her semester break. “Shared work, a sense of alienation, and the experience of migration become the foundations of their complex friendship – one profoundly shaped by the ongoing war,” the filmmakers write. “It is a universal story about alienation, the pressure to adapt, and the search for a common language despite political and cultural differences.” The title role of Nadiezhda is played by Alona Szostak, while Nadia is portrayed by Sasha Cherkas.

Director Elizaveta Dedal is known for films rich in symbolism and layered meanings. Her short film Roshada won first prize at the Maklak Film Festival in the “Academic” category. She draws inspiration from philosophy, literature, and the works of directors such as Andrei Tarkovsky and Michael Haneke.

Cinematographer Marianna Korman is a recipient of the Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region scholarship for artistic creation, cultural promotion, and heritage protection, as well as a City of Toruń culture scholarship. Her film Nice to Meet You received the Grand Prix at the 2022 Film Mirrors Festival. The production of her film uRodziny was supported by the Kujawy Pomorze Film Fund. In 2018 she directed the docudrama The Storage about the life of actor Niko Niakas, who has been associated with the Toruń theatre scene for more than thirty-five years.
