Animocje Festival: Marshal’s Film Award for a Dubbing Master

He has appeared in over 100 film and television productions and has lent his voice to around 300 dubbing projects – Zbigniew Suszyński will receive the Marshal’s Film Award at the Animocje festival.

This year’s 15th edition of the International Animated Film Festival Animocje will take place in Bydgoszcz from April 21 to 26. The main partner is the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Regional Self-Government. The festival has been organized at the Municipal Cultural Centre in Bydgoszcz since 2011. Its creator and coordinator is Weronika Płaczek. Each year, Animocje showcases ambitious, artistically innovative animated cinema from around the world, breaking the stereotype of animation as a medium exclusively for children. “Our program priority is bold, interesting, and innovative formal and visual solutions, unconventional use of traditional techniques, and engaging, emotionally resonant themes. Thanks to the international competition, Animocje offers an opportunity to discover the latest productions from around the world. Special screenings of feature-length animated films and thematic short film presentations allow audiences to explore animation in new contexts,” the organizers explain.

The festival also includes workshops, meetings with creators, and other activities that bring audiences closer to the unique world of animation.

This year, for the first time, the Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region Film Award named after Pola Negri will be presented for outstanding achievements in dubbing. It will be awarded on the final day of Animocje to Zbigniew Suszyński, who is associated with the region. The laureate is currently one of the most recognizable Polish character actors, with a rich artistic output in both film and dubbing. He was born in 1961 in Rypin, where he first became interested in theatre and poetry at a local cultural centre. He is a graduate of the Acting Department of the Łódź Film School. He made his stage debut while still a student in 1986. After graduation, he performed at the Stefan Jaracz Theatre in Łódź and later worked with Warsaw theatres, including Teatr Nowy, Teatr na Woli, and Teatr Współczesny. He made his television debut in 1981 with a minor role in the series “Jan Serce.” He gained popularity through performances in films and TV series of the 1980s and 1990s, particularly his roles as Krzysztof Buk in “The Last Bell” (directed by Magdalena Łazarkiewicz) and “Scorpion” in “Young Wolves” and “Young Wolves ½” (directed by Jarosław Żamojda). In later years, he was frequently cast in supporting roles, appearing in popular productions such as “Samowolka,” “M jak miłość,” “Magda M.,” “Klan,” “Na Wspólnej,” “Barwy szczęścia,” “Czas honoru,” and “Ślepnąc od świateł.”

An important part of his career is dubbing and voice-over work. He has voiced dozens of characters in animated films and series. Polish audiences can hear him in productions such as “SpongeBob SquarePants,” “Tom and Jerry,” “Asterix and Obelix,” “Shrek 2,” and “Shrek the Third.” Over the course of his career, he has performed more than 50 theatre roles, appeared in over 100 film and TV productions, and participated in around 300 dubbing projects, making him one of the most versatile Polish actors.

Zbigniew Suszyński will be the 24th recipient of the Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region Film Award named after Pola Negri. The award has been granted since 2022 to artists and creators – from debutants to established masters – whose work and achievements hold particular significance for Polish cinema. Recipients include actors, directors, cinematographers, and film music composers. The statuette, designed by Zbigniew Mikielewicz in the form of a stylized film reel featuring the image of Pola Negri, is presented during film festivals held in the region. It commemorates one of the first great stars of world cinema, who came from Lipno.
